May 7, 2012 - First of all you know that 7-10 is measure as miles per HOUR. Take the 3 years, 2 months, 2 weeks, and 16hours and convert it to hours. then add them all, divide 8.5 for the time he rested, then multiply 10 for the max of his running speed rate and you'll get to approximately 33,007 miles. Well, that excludes the leap years, days in a month.

ZeroToNowhere Says:

dickertgl Says:

May 24, 2012 - Based on the TV report about Carter, he started running Oct. 1, 1979. 1980 was a leap year. All told, he ran 1,171 days, adding 16 hours he ran 18,744 hours. Figure he jogged 7 mph, increasing his stamina over the years, averaging 8.5 mph. Allow 8 hours for sleep, eating and "you know" ... he ran 18,744 hours, finishing on Dec. 15, 1982 at 4 p.m. If he ran seven days a week, he ran 159, 324 miles ... enough to go from Seattle to Miami 48 times or LA to NY almost 57 times.

pivot383 Says:

May 27, 2012 - 7-10 mph is very high thats more of a sprint. A walking pace is only 0.5-1 Mph which is 2-5 Kmh 10mph a mile every 6 mins 7mph a mile every 9minsAlso fatigue has to be factored in. And there is no mention of Jogging since he is not sprinting . And he is never to be shown running at high speeds. You could probably calculate an estimate from distance in footage shown and time.

Tom Hanks Says:

May 29, 2012 - I ran a long ways.
