Feb 25, 2012 - So do I with almost everybody, but Zappa. You are lucky.
Synapsenkitzler Says:
Feb 27, 2012 - Zappa is about making intelligent, inspiring music with intelligent, inspiring lyrics with a very special, lovely kind of critical humour.

Feb 28, 2012 - same here, I think Zappa was very overrated. He's more interested in quirky art statements than making proper music. His "message" or whatever would have been better received if he cut out the zany gimmicky lyrics and stage act and belted out great songs like Bob Dylan. His legend is simply made by the hipster/art set, and he is there darling because people who admire him like to think they are musically and intellectually superior to those of us who would rather listen to Van Halen

Feb 29, 2012 - If you use proper to describe music, you obviously don't truly understand what it is that makes music so powerful. It is neither right nor wrong, it simply is.

Feb 29, 2012 - So funny, so brilliant, so Frank. Some day perhaps the music business will catch up you maestro. We miss you so.

Feb 29, 2012 - LOL There is such a thing as proper music, that's why we have music theory. If some idiot randomly strums a guitar wildly and randomly, is that music?...No. You can't seriously tell me that Zappa's adolescent lyrics and often painfully un-harmonious compositions are good music. This idea of neither wrong nor right is such a cop out. Zappa made a lot of rubbish and got praised for it by a bunch of hipsters trying to prove to their peers they "get it".

Mar 6, 2012 - I love Frank Zappa. He was one of a kind. Talented musician and funny, a satirist. Uncompromising. He was competing with all that hippy-trippy, druggie, mystical stuff on the one hand, and all the strutting machismo on the other. Don't get me wrong, I love those other guys, but the way he stood up and said "screw you, I'm doing my own thing" was awesome. A punk before his time, in many ways. Sadly missed o7

Mar 7, 2012 - Right. Wrong. Doesn't matter as long as I like it. You can't take that away from anyone.
Thespeakerofmanytru8 Says:
Mar 7, 2012 - As long as you like it for the right reasons.
Velvetaeroplane1 Says:
Mar 13, 2012 - @speakerofmanytru8 have you ever heard anything off "The Grand Wazoo" or "Waka/Jawaka" or the 2007 one called "Wazoo" or "Everything Is Healing Nicely" or even anything where there is orchestral stuff cuz he composed that stuff. He is talented, aside from some silly lyrics. He was smart in the fact that he didn't take himself seriously. People need to learn to not be so serious....

Apr 15, 2012 - You obviously haven't heard much of Frank's music, or know anything about what he stands for, maybe before commenting you should at least try to know a little of what you're talking about?
bischerosti Says:
Apr 16, 2012 - As a van halen Geek, I disagree. Zappa had a knowledge of music beyond most normal people. He notated his music, he understood he was playing in 13/8 or singing a line of 11 notes over a bar of 12. Thats just fucking genius. I understand most non musicians may not appreciate it, but it wasnt hipsters, or art people, it was real musicians that got the joy out of his music. And anyone else who loves hilariuos lyrics. I do love EVH more though.
bischerosti Says:
Apr 17, 2012 - Proper Music? Notate the black page, in ink, post it, and tell me it's not a near impossible piece of music to comprehend or play. C'mon...... Frank could play a straight up boogie woogie like anyone, and morph it into free jazz by a gesture. He was more than people can comprehend. It may not sound "proper" but it was extremely complex and any musician should appreciate his prowess. If your not a musician, I understand, just listen to the lyrics and laugh
