Description:
Tomoi, A Malaysian word for martial art including Muay Thai and weapons. Kru Jak a former professional Muay Thai fighter and a recognized Silat Master learned the ancient art of Muay Thai Boran, as well as Thai and Malaysian weapons. He believes the Boran techniques are best in the fighting ring. He also sees the parallel between armed and unarmed combat, as he applies many of the same concepts with a weapon as without.Brooklyn Monk in Asia Podcast (anti-travel humor)http://brooklynmonk.podomatic.comTwitterhttp://twitter.com/Brooklynmonkwebsitewww.speakingadventure.comfacebookBrooklyn Monk fan pageSubscribe to youtubehttp://www.youtube.com/user/brooklynmonk1

Silatbule Says:
Oct 8, 2010 - FMA was hugely influenced by silat. look at the Srivajaya and Majapahit empires for a start. However you have to be aware that the countries boundaries were put in place by European colonials so 'who had it first' kind of becomes erroneous. Malaysia, Indonesia, Fillipines are all of the same Austronesian stock. The martial Arts of these regions have similarities but also maintain their regional 'flavours'.
Silatbule Says:
Oct 8, 2010 - Cont.I believe Guru Jak's family style originates from Java and it shows. However when you get cultural diffusionalism at the Malay/Thai border you are going to get a lot of elbows and low kicks. Muay Thai has them, Silat has them....combine the two.... :)
