This is the full length version of the original ITN news TV theme music by John Malcolm, as used on ITV from 1955 until the 1970's for all the main news bulletins, It was still used for the weekend and generic bulletins until the end of 1982. This is the actual OST version as used by ITN, recorded by L'ORCHESTRE DEVEREAUX Conducted by GEORGES DEVEREAUX in 1951There are several other very similar recordings that are available on TV theme compilations etc.This version was available on the ITV 50 compilation. This tune is still used occasionally as background or incidental music in other TV programmes & commercials.If you want this OST version on CD, it is currently Available on "The Golden Age Of Light Music - Light Music On The Move". - (Guild light music - GLCD5131) Available at Amazon.co.uk & elsewhere.

I mean, what a waste! the BBC news titles and theme have changed 4 times in the past 12 years 1999,2003,2007 and the current 2008 look that looks great but cost £500000

Jul 21, 2011 - Only a short section of the recording was used as the theme tune for ITN bulletins and it consequently didn't sound as "jolly" as the whole piece might suggest. Listen for only about eight seconds from 0:11 and you get a good feel for how the intro to a news programme actually started. Even the ending was edited to sound dramatic...
