May 14, 2012 - if he wasnt Japanese id be impressed. its standard for them to play the ukulele so well. everyone knows that
CelesteB2011 Says:
May 14, 2012 - he is hawiian...
KUPHSER Says:
May 14, 2012 - "A fifth generation Japanese-American, Shimabukuro initially gained attention in Hawaii in 1998 as a member of Pure Heart" Japanese blood... sorry Celeste, i dont believe it says anything about him having Hawiian in him. you can take your foot out of your mouth when ever your ready.
CelesteB2011 Says:
May 14, 2012 - haha oopsies
KUPHSER Says:
May 14, 2012 - im not being rude, my original comment was my sarcastic way of saying how good he is at the ukulele :)
DJDannyYun Says:
May 15, 2012 - He is native to Hawaii, born in Honolulu. He may not be of native Polynesian Ethnicity, but he IS Hawaiian, brought up in the modern Hawaiian culture and not Japanese. Granted his ethnic background gives him an easy bridge to go rock out in Japan, but I don't think CelesteB2011 was entirely incorrect to point out that he is Hawaiian. He identifies more with Hawaii than he does Japan. My own ethnicity is Korean, but I'm American and it would be misleading for me to tell people I'm Korean.
KUPHSER Says:
May 15, 2012 - call it 50 50 then. if its in his blood it does make a difference. either way he is extremely talented
