The problem with how iMacs are built is that the screen and chassis are one and the same, so an entire process is needed in order to access anything inside of that kind of setup. Not to mention the terribly compact design makes the cooling system (if you can call it that) as about as efficient as a 4 year old laptop.Sorry, but compared to a tower, where HDD's are literally hotswappable, iMacs completely fail in this ease of modification arena.

May 18, 2012 - 1. I can easily hook up a 27" (or larger) 2K res monitor to my Laptop. That's the beauty of having a 1.5GB Nvidia GPU inside of the thing2. Laptops can house CPU's with clock speeds of 3.6GHz and 6 cores. Mine is middle of the road with 4 Cores @ 2.2GHz. Then again, I can always OC my CPU, and, hell, I only paid $1500 for the thing. Not to mention I have 8GB of RAM and 2 HDD's. Your Baseline iMac gets you 4GB RAM, 1 HDD, and a lower grade video card, all for $500 more than my laptop.

May 19, 2012 - Speaking as someone who edits both at home and at college, there is every reason to have that kind of raw power. I have a respectable mid range laptop that can go toe to toe with a basic iMac, for less than half the cost. I have mobility, speed, a great price point, and the ability to do all of the work of a decent iMac. Not sure about you, but to me, that's value for the money. And not NEARLY as limiting as having something as limited as an iMac.
