Jan 27, 2012 - was it not at CERN where Sir Tim Burners-Lee (and a few others) invented the World-Wide Web? Sir David King would most likely label that invention useless as well.

Feb 4, 2012 - Cheers to Prof Cox for making exactly the right points in the face of the unfortunate and backward-looking, seemingly ignorant patronizing of King. Honestly, good for you Prof Cox!
AdriansPunk Says:
Feb 9, 2012 - Brian Cox is exactly what the Science world needed in this stage of our goals. He speaks out when he knows how ignorant some people are and will continue to do so. I wish some folks would do their home-work before spouting rubbish about the spending. Brian is 100% correct in saying that the 'spin-off' discoveries even due to the ML in 1969 were quite brilliant. The Scientists HAD to find the answers and they did. We reaped the rewards in our everyday lives because of these achievements.

Feb 11, 2012 - Cox had him! lol

Feb 16, 2012 - I like the fact that at the beginning Jeremy Paxman apologises for mispronouncing the Large Hadron Collider as 'Hay-dron', in a previous show due to "sheer ignorance" and then later on in the clip Sir David King pronounces it 'Hay-dron' too - proof (if ever any was needed) that David King is indeed ignorant...not to mention patronising, out of touch & blinkered!
sinprelic Says:
Feb 16, 2012 - Brian Cox >>> Me > Sir DaveHERE: physicists gave us biologists the greatest tools for OUR OWN FIELD. a microscope is a physicist's invention. the x-ray machines are a physicist's invention. the MRI machine is a physicist's invention. the fluorescent stains are a chemist's invention. medicine is a pharmacologist's invention.I say give the physicists the damn money. they are the vanguard. they have ideas which they need to TEST. the rest of us have a lack of ideas which we can easily test!

Feb 28, 2012 - £4 billion for something that might made real advances in science....versus.....£12 billion for the olympic games in London

Mar 15, 2012 - but really this was quite civil compared to most discussions I see on american television
Traderguru Says:
Mar 20, 2012 - Evolution at what cost? What are the costs and benefits to the taxpayers to date?
mignik01 Says:
Mar 22, 2012 - you are talking to a professor in particle physics, and what is factual information. Scientists are pretty sure that there is a higgs boson, now the most exciting thing that can happen from cern is the finding that there isnt one. If you dont understand how science works, please stop giving us ideas
mignik01 Says:
Mar 22, 2012 - New elements are found and added to the table ever year?????????????????????????????????????? I'm sorry when????? Yes we modify our theories all the time to account for new data, Bear in mind these so called guesses is what gave you the computer and everything else that you take for granted today.

Mar 23, 2012 - brian cox shat all over that other guy

Mar 25, 2012 - Wow these two are treating Brian like a little kid. Must be frustrating to try to explain the amount of knowledge he has to two babbling monkeys.

Apr 21, 2012 - I read that physics related industry generates a significant ammount of the gdp of the uk, and that they only have a fraction of this growth reflected in their budget. twats.
yayforspooky Says:
Apr 28, 2012 - So, the fellow in the bow tie is essentially arguing that we should expect to solve our current problems with our current tools, and that discovering new problem solving tools is an endeavor best left for when we no longer have any problems that need solving. I really hope that I'm not the only person to whom this argument seems vacuous.
justnotcricket Says:
May 15, 2012 - I understand Brian's frustration, however he's far too polite. I would've just punched him. Yup, that's how we roll in the suburbs.
