The problem with that creatively though, is that he doesn't need, or seemingly want, to try anymore. It means that he will continue to do the same thing with progressively less success until he retires. You will never see anything fresh on his show. Which is fine- he has no obligation to step down and what he provides consistently and familiarly is what a lot of want to watch

May 2, 2011 - I just think that someone like Craig Ferguson deserves more recognition than he gets: firstly, because his conversational style is inherently more unpredictable and therefore, to me at least, more interesting than the heavily prepared interviews of someone like Letterman; and secondly, because he is frequently changing things up/trying new things, with varying degrees of success. On a personal level, I also find him generally more charming and funnier than the other guys.
