Dec 28, 2010 - The Illustrated Man is a 1951 book of eighteen science fiction short stories by Ray Bradbury that explores the nature of mankind and the conflict of the cold mechanics of technology and the psychology of people. The unrelated stories are tied together by the frame device of "the Illustrated Man", a vagrant with a tattooed body whom the unnamed narrator meets. The film adaptation of The Illustrated Man was released in 1969.

Feb 23, 2011 - I bought a videocamera not long after my mom died, and I felt indirectly responsible. After watching this, I got an interesting insight into why I did 2 particular videos. In the 1st, (Remembrance) a woman dies. We all know her death is coming, but still, it happens quickly and takes the co-star by surprise. In the 2nd (Mine Child Mind) a woman is being taken away by death. The hero shows up, he leaves the scene yet she kills herself, and the man is left wondering if his actions caused this. Hmm

Apr 7, 2011 - Ray doesn't mention that the film was already in trouble in pre-production when the producer adapted the novel. It shows in the film.

May 14, 2011 - I always looked at "the nursery" as an allegory for the construction of identity by society and the clash of technology with humanity...his explanation was lamer :/

chrise143 Says:

Aug 11, 2011 - His explanation of 'the nursery' does not necessarily mean that there is no more to the story than a piece of science fiction exploration. It is still a representation of the relationship between technology and humanity, it clearly is, he is merely explaining one aspect of the tale to address a point he is making. Here he is simply explaining the way in which a plot or aspect of a story may be constructed, themes and concepts are then intertwined within the story to create great didactic fables

HnefataflModern Says:

Dec 14, 2011 - Possibly the greatest explanation ever given for the importance and necessity of fiction. A wonderful response to non-fiction "snobs".
