Description:
THE SPIRIT SOARS INTO THEATERS CHRISTMAS DAY 2008! - Synopsis: Adapted from the legendary comic strip, THE SPIRIT is a classic action-adventure-romance told by genre-twister FRANK MILLER (creator of 300 and SIN CITY). It is the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the SPIRIT (Gabriel Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His arch-enemy, the OCTOPUS (Samuel L. Jackson) has a different mission: hes going to wipe out Spirit's beloved city as he pursues his own version of immortality. The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central Citys rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront ... all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader. Surrounding him at every turn are ELLEN DOLAN (Sarah Paulson), the whip-smart girl-next-door; SILKEN FLOSS (Scarlett Johansson), a punk secretary and frigid vixen; PLASTER OF PARIS (Paz Vega), a murderous French nightclub dancer; LORELEI (Jaime King), a phantom siren; and MORGENSTERN (Stana Katic), a sexy young cop. Then of course, theres SAND SAREF (Eva Mendes), the jewel thief with dangerous curves. Shes the love of his life turned bad. Will he save her or will she kill him? In the vein of BATMAN BEGINS and SIN CITY, THE SPIRIT takes us on a sinister, gut-wrenching ride with a hero who is born, murdered and born again.

masterDization Says:

Sep 24, 2011 - I found the Visual style to be hard to watch. it worked in the sin city movie...kinda...but miller really has no idea how to work in Movies as a medium. you can see it alot in the way characters move at times plus the Spirits Non stop inner monolog. is a Noir golden age pulp hero Frank....not freaking daredevil.

HughGass1234 Says:

Feb 4, 2012 - Lol people complain about the ridiculous story and dialogue... it's a comic book!! What do you expect?! That's what made this film bloody brilliant :D

ThatJeffreyManus Says:

Feb 7, 2012 - Probably cause of Samuel L. muthafuckin' Jackson. Not be best villain...

patrix4th Says:

Feb 8, 2012 - I thought this movie was good. The Spirit is kind of a mixture of superhero personalities. Dark like Batman, morals like Superman, detective like Dick Tracey (not really a superhero type character but still a good comic), the costume and self dialogue like Rorschach.

link33100 Says:

Feb 25, 2012 - agreed

Emangel991 Says:

Feb 28, 2012 - que bueno q está el actor dios! xD

diddymuck Says:

Mar 24, 2012 - Outfit was supposed to be blue, not black; Spirit has powers when he shouldn't have; waaaay too many camp elements when the story should have been distinctively serious...maybe a funny secondary character but that's it; The Octopus is the only Spirit baddie whose FACE IS NEVER SEEN; Dolan don't look like Dolan and is missing his trademark pipe; The Spirit usually looks for people after Dolan (his colleague, supporter and confidante) gives him a setup; and the toilet fight was revolting.

diddymuck Says:

Mar 24, 2012 - also the Spirit was a conventional fisticuffs expert, not a stupid acrobat who would walk tightropes...maybe he might try but he'd look freaked out with each step and make it across by pure luck.

diddymuck Says:

Mar 24, 2012 - The Spirit also survives shots, stabs, and horrendous beatings by pure natural physical prowess and the ability to take it and give it back.

diddymuck Says:

Mar 24, 2012 - Also, the Spirit was a cheery faced confident fighter who might be discovered by safe crackers sitting on the safe drinking soda from a bottle with straws confronting them with a big grin. That was the foundation of the strip's charm. They had to make it a Batman Junior with comedy.

snakes3425 Says:

May 21, 2012 - They didn't really establish an origin, which was he fell into suspended animation after being exposed to chemicals used by Dr. Cobra and was believed to be dead, and uses the fact people think he's dead to hide his vigilantism, also the spirit has no superpowers, and the octopus necer shows his true face.

learrus Says:

May 25, 2012 - This movie was pure bad ass.

snakes3425 Says:

May 27, 2012 - I'm probably going to get flammed for this but between the two I actually prefer the Spirit to Dick Tracy for one reason, The Spirit created a dark noir style atmosphere and Central City looked and felt like a city where crime and corruption were rampant and a powerful mob boss ruled with an iron fist with Dick Tracy the atmosphere was lost because everything was bright and vibrant, it didn't look or feel like a city plague by corruption or crime, let alone that a powerful mob boss was in charge
