Apr 27, 2012 - Sorry, math8er1, but it's not about the War of 1812 between the U.S. and Canada? The War of 1812 was between U.S. and the U.K., for one. And, this overture is not about that. It's a mistake a lot of people make. It was written by Tchaikovsky to commemorate Russia's defense of Moscow against Napoleon's advancing Grande Armée at the Battle of Borodino in 1812.

And America doing whatever on our continent was actually preparing an emerging country who had just won a war with Britain. Anyhow, this was a beautiful piece. The cannon effects really surprised me, I jumped. I'm 13 in level 3 orchestra and my knowledge grows. :D
