cjrvision Says:

Feb 6, 2012 - this one is the best versions I have ever heard by greg lake singing it...too bad the sound was not that good at the time of the recording....thanks so much for posting...I can imagine what it sounds like when it has good sound...:)....This is the unofficial national anthem for England and was written as a story what if Jesus traveled to England...." and did those feet in ancient times walk upon England's mountains green"....very inspiring and thundering song usually with choir and organ....

Feb 11, 2012 - Jerusalem is ELP packed into 3 minutes-- they are all phenomenal. It's my favorite drum part of any song anytime. Just a majestic piece!!!

CJZiggy Says:

Feb 17, 2012 - FYI, in case anyone cares how this song came to be..."And did those feet in ancient time" is a short poem by William Blake from the preface to his epic Milton a Poem, one of a collection of writings known as the Prophetic Books. The date on the title page of 1804 for Milton is probably when the plates were begun, but the poem was printed c. 1808.[1] Today it is best known as the anthem "Jerusalem", with music written by Sir Hubert Parry in 1916. Then turned into this masterpiece by ELP.

Feb 27, 2012 - ELP have ruined this beautiful hymn. I was going to record it myself but realized that I couldn't do it justice. Pity ELP didn't realize that too.

apokalupsis3 Says:

Feb 27, 2012 - If it hadn't been for ELP I would not have known this beautiful hymn! (I am American)

Mar 6, 2012 - Thank you, as American I never knew where it came from, but always liked it. i saw ELP 2 times & they played it in 2nd concert. The fans all loved it. I am thankful my generation has so much great music to look back on & fact that concerts were affordable & so much fun!!

CJZiggy Says:

Mar 6, 2012 - @lolangford1, I'm glad you appreciate the background info on "Jerusalem"...one of my favorite songs of all time. gives me chills.

Mar 7, 2012 - I didn't know that this was actually a hymn until much later but I did see them in concert when this came out. It was unforgettable!

Apr 13, 2012 - i was listening to this record when me dad walked into my bedroom singing this song.. only then did I realise it's actually a hymn Wiliam Blake ??

TheTiffanyAching Says:

Apr 14, 2012 - They kicked off their BSS tour show in Toronto (at good ol' Maple Leaf Gardens) with this. Probably the best concert I've ever seen (though there were a lot of top contenders in those days).

Oldfaithful61 Says:

Apr 18, 2012 - That's because they're beautiful.

mgcocasal Says:

Apr 20, 2012 - You should look at Blake's poetry, try Songs of Innocence and Experience. He was one of the first to show how children suffered being forced to work in mills and up chimneys

Apr 28, 2012 - Jak słucham tego utworu dzieci kwiatu światowego ruchu sprzeciwu zastanemu porządkowi rzeczy- status quo, aż mi ciarki przechodzą po plecach!Boże jak by nie "You Tube" to by człek nigdy nie ujrzał tego prześwietnego zespołu, tzw "nad" grupy progresywnego, symfonicznego rock&roll Underground music.

Apr 28, 2012 - still amazing

byronofcalgary Says:

May 6, 2012 - this is more than just a hymn - its probably the top hymn in britain because of the lyrics refering to britain as some sort of holy land -saw greg lake explaining it's significance to the brits -think of it as their 2nd national anthem -if they hadn't pulled it off they woulda been crucified [also look for an ALAN WHITE SOLO TRACK FEAT YES BANDMATE JON ANDERSON called "spring song of innocence" -lyrics by blake] more poetry as lyrics "i wandered lonely as a cloud.." from genesis' "the lamb"

byronofcalgary Says:

May 6, 2012 - more beauty via poetry "LOREENA MCKENNIT" VARIOUS TRACKS inc greensleeves and "lady of shallot" -fairport convention's "to althea from prison" [lyrics from 1642 => "stone walls do not a prison make..nor iron bars a cage"]

tacomadc Says:

May 12, 2012 - It's hard to really remember just how huge this album was, and how people LOVED ELP back in those days. They were kings of progressive rock!

bagorush Says:

May 13, 2012 - WOW!!! I love this song. If your enjoying this, check out early genesis with peter gabriel, you will not be disipointed, I ppromise.
