Needless to say, he was not happy about this, and often missed meetings, which was a politically dangerous thing for him to do. Already intent on becoming a priest, young Joseph entered the seminary, but was then drafted into the German military. He eventually deserted, was picked up by American troops and made a POW, then was freed and went back to the seminary. To call this man a Nazi is vile.

As a Catholic educated in parochial schools, I was taught unintentional killing was not morally imputable. The Hitler Youth caused the death of Jews by being required to report their whereabouts.
