Apr 13, 2012 - Hi mate I do Karate and Wing Chun, just a friendly word of advise, the Wing Chun shapes wont help you in the slightest its not like learning Gedan or Jodan uke. The hand shapes in wingchung are only a reference point to a movement or a reaction to an impulse.. they arent blocks as most karate techniques. The best thing to do would be to find a teacher to show you what i mean you cant learn wingchun on the net. Hope this helps :)

ronin752 Says:
May 4, 2012 - I study okinawan karate, which draws upon the same roots as wing chun. There is a saying, that karate is for defense only. This is the difference between martial arts and MMA. It is the origin of intent. The intent with MMA is to dominate, to aggress. To attack. With us, the goal is defense, which is to respond appropriately to attack. It may appear to the outsider that we are attacking, but when you are training correctly you fill in the gaps of his attack subconsciously.
11Kralle Says:
May 4, 2012 - I think, every martial art has the same origin. The difference between them is the way of exercising. You will find every wingchun-movement spread amongst the countless martial arts worldwide. Using a certain terminology does not rule out same approaches. If I see cramped limbs, locked joints or unskilled movements I call them what they are. The best defense is either a good attack or a broken will to attack. To determinate if there is going to be a fight or not is the method of choice.

May 21, 2012 - Why did i see huen sau twice ?
gungfu777 Says:
May 23, 2012 - MMA is martial arts. Some off the top fighters and champs have backgrounds in Boxing, TKD, Muay Thai, and Shotokan Karate. In fact a former ufc light heavyweight champ was a shotokan black belt. His father being a Karate master. It never made any sense to never attack first. If someone is coming up to you ready to take your head off it would be stupid to block first. lol I took west coast tkd and currently take muay thai. From fights ive seen you should always attack first.
gungfu777 Says:
May 23, 2012 - I never understood the concepts and applications of wing chun. These moves might work against another wing chun fighter. But an average street fights that knows how to fight...or lets say a good boxer or muay thai would smash anyone trying to deflect punches like these moves. I have a friend take wing chun and I ask him to deflect a simple right cross to his chest. Couldnt do it. lol And even when he bong my right hand the punch still got through. This style has never been proven to work.
ronin752 Says:
May 24, 2012 - I am well aware of who Lyoto Machida is, and his father. MMA is not martial arts. MMA is martial sport. There is a difference. Muay thai is a martial sport. The difference is the element of suprise. If you agree to fight someone on the street, you could have gotten out of it. Defensive positions like in wing chun are stylized versions of flinch response. Which is what you need when you are caught off guard. The overstylization of movement is what doesn't work, not the concepts.
gungfu777 Says:
May 24, 2012 - Muay thai is pure martial art. It just has a sport aspect like Bjj/judo/wrestling etc. But in there pure forms there deadly in the street. In sports judo you cant do chokes/armlocks/leglocks. But pure Judo can kill a man. Wrestling has a sport aspect. But pure wrestling aka catch wrestling with neck cracks etc can kill a man. Pure muay thai is called muay boran. In the streets of thailand people have been killed in street fights. Not to mention in the ring. Wing Chun has never been shown 2 work.
b7r7u7c7e Says:
May 24, 2012 - Bro I take muay thai and its the best street defense! I never get why people call boxing and muay thai a pure sport style. lol Its just that some martial arts have sports aspect. Most streets fights are in close so muay thai helps you control your man in the clinch and smash with elbows and knees to the liver, ribs, and kidney. Its perfect for the streets. Wing chun is a silly style. Nobody going to play patty cake with you. You telling me you can deflect 2 hard jabs followed by a right? lol
b7r7u7c7e Says:
May 24, 2012 - Bro I totally agree on your points. The real reason why people blindly follow wing chun is because they heard Bruce Lee took it so there for it must be the best style. So even though theres never been a story of wing chun working in the street, or when hundreds of videos show wc getting beat you hear the same excuse. Its not ALL those guys suck. WC is complex and takes years to master. Its not a sport. lol Why should it take years to learn a style that was meant to be simple to learn? LMAO

May 25, 2012 - Does Leung Ting know that you use pictures of his Wing Tsun Kuen? ;-)

ronin752 Says:
May 28, 2012 - There aren't any blocks in karate either. That is children's karate.
ronin752 Says:
May 28, 2012 - I am well aware of muay boran. I am a karateka. It is the same thing in karate. Sport karate, which goes along with karate do, is an aspect. Like judo. There has always been karate-jitsu just like there is ju jitsu. I don't knock any arts, and I do know of wing chun practicioners who can fight very well. What I like about Bruce Lee was his attitude. Take was is useful, discard the rest. But sometimes we should take a bit more time before judging something as useless.
