May 15, 2012 - Kubrick's "The Shining" is not really a Stephen King movie. It was loosely based on the book and King himself did not like the movie.I like how they left out the much better King movies: The Tommyknockers, The Langoliers, Stephen King's The Shining, Rose Red, the Stand, It.

May 15, 2012 - What are you, ten? Kubrick's the so called Shining puts me to sleep every time I try to watch it. I have no idea why so many people seem to love it. It has horrible acting, no decent (or any at all) musical score, no sense, no atmosphere (unless you call a big empty house with tasteless white walls an atmosphere).

May 21, 2012 - Is Jack Nicholson the only actor in the movie? Besides, it was far from his best - ever seen "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest"?How can you say it had atmosphere? It felt very hollow the entire time. The majority of scenes are there to take up space, the hotel looks cheap and tasteless. The characters are pretty much under-developed - Jack, Wendy and Danny don't feel like they're family. They don't interact like parents and their kid or a husband and his wife would. I didn't feel for them.

But the whole thing about them not acting like a family is where the whole conspiracy comes in that something had happened before them going to hotel, and not just the drunk Jack coming in and hurting his son.

May 22, 2012 - I see where you're getting at but firstly, the movie is not very good at making impression that something of importance had happened "behind the scenes", and secondly, whatever should have had happened - Jack is still a loving husband and father, at least in the book and the TV movie. In Kubrick's version he looks and sort of acts like a careless maniac from the start - a maniac he had to gradually become. If the movie character had to be joker instead of Jack I'd believe his performance.

May 23, 2012 - I actually thought there was a major difference between Jack at the beggining and at towards the end. I think they just wanted to make a change to the book and go with a different sort of Jack and I actually think that change was for the better- it made his character look a lot darker like something had happened.

May 29, 2012 - I agree. And i also think more movies should be based on Stephen King stories. He has written so many great stories, and many would make awesome movies. Why not make them? One less aknowledged movie based on a Stephen King story is "The Langoilers". It's the first Stephen King story i ever read, and the movie is nice. :)
