Feb 5, 2011 - Yes, Rick, Americans work more and they also give more when other countries need help! So, indeed, God bless America because what other country is going to work to have so they can give to those in need?

Feb 5, 2011 - Best lecture I've listen to in a long time. Having traveled extensively myself, I relate so much of what you touched upon. I was also dragged to Europe like yourself, but as a military dependent. I spent 11 wonderful years there and I can't wait to move back to Europe permanently. Your travel show helps us to temporarily escape our daily lives, and bring back so many memories. Thank you Rick. Hope to run into you one day in Europe.

Feb 7, 2011 - Great lecture.

A3neas Says:

Feb 8, 2011 - Where are these lectures held at Seattle? The UW?

RickSteves Says:

Feb 8, 2011 - Rick gives these lectures in his homebase of Edmonds, WA, and around the U.S.

nillerbrun Says:

Feb 8, 2011 - Great lecture. I like the non-judgmental approach. To some people who immediately turn off and flip to defensive mode it may seem like Rick is saying Europe's better, but he isn't. He's showing you that there is a different way. Not better, but different. Think about it, use your head and vote with it.

nillerbrun Says:

Feb 8, 2011 - Google or search wikipedia for "List_of_most_charitable_countries"America gives the most because you are the largest country with the biggest GDP. But relatively speaking, you are the 19th most charitable country.

Mar 6, 2011 - Thank you for making this lecture available! It was thought provoking, entertaining and (in some small way), transformative for me.

lotwyo Says:

Jun 3, 2011 - I like 90% of what he says, but I don't like his excess of 'Kumbaya' spirits that gets almost apologetic for Westerns being rich, educated and developed.

lambchopxoxo Says:

Jun 12, 2011 - lol My first travel experience was in Germany with my mom when I was 12 visiting relatives. I caught the travel bug then. It's always been a passion.

stvarnoneznam21 Says:

Aug 5, 2011 - lol imperialist/capitalst peoples like the americans of today are the reason the people are in need in the first place. A big reason why the americans "give" is for tax breaks.

englishballerco Says:

Jan 14, 2012 - I love your traveling shows but you're such a bleeding heart liberal. America= Individualism/Federalism Europe=Collectivism/Soft-Socialism Europeans should be waking up every day thanking America for the blood and treasure we gave and continue to give to protect Western Civilization over and over again. And now when the Eurozone collapses we will be there to bail them out for their bloated welfare states. A European welfare state that exists because they don't pay for their own defense.

H4nnub4l Says:

Apr 12, 2012 - US does not pay for it's defense neither. Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan was financed by debt, which has grown so big that people don't even know whether it is billons/trillions/kvazillions or whatever

tillallareoneluv Says:

Apr 28, 2012 - Rick has guts and guts is enough. He didn't wait until he was 80 years-old to write a memior and say these things. He said them when it mattered and when it could threaten his business and popularity. Agree with him or not, you should admire his candor and thoughtfulness.
