May 20, 2012 - Anything with a petroleum based solvent will ruin a record, fire or not. I once found a rare LP at a thrift shop, but somebody applied Scotch tape to the record grooves itself. I tried pulling the tape off with no luck. I put some "Goo Gone" on the record, but it melted the vinyl, so I had to toss the record anyway.
