Added: Apr 23, 2010

Author: WickedDealer

Duration: 6:35

Description:
In the third of a four part series of Timmy Magic Corner, I sit down with the Innovator Patrick Chapin for one of the most interesting and entertaining interviews in TMC history A must watch video for anyone that wants Patrick's opionion on the cost of competitive magic and for those wondering I did not come up with the question, another known magic player did. Also sorry about the ending, but a Judge needed to talk with Chapin. Enjoy and until later I am the Wickeddealer for Patrick Chapin "Emptying Manapools with Ease".

Apr 23, 2010 - u kinda got owned lol

WickedDealer Says:

Apr 23, 2010 - As stated in the drop bar it wasn't me that came up with the question about competitive cost.

johnluke072000 Says:

Apr 23, 2010 - still man u kinda ragged on when u were talking about why hasn't he top 8ed lately i mean how is he supposed to answer that ?

WickedDealer Says:

Apr 23, 2010 - I think he answered it quite well actually. It all comes down to play mistakes and not fully being on his game.

johnluke072000 Says:

Apr 23, 2010 - yea but why would u ask that question?

WickedDealer Says:

Apr 23, 2010 - Wanted his opinion.

johnluke072000 Says:

Apr 23, 2010 - well i understand that but couldn't you see how that would be insulting?

dontwalkdontrun Says:

Apr 23, 2010 - "Every single deck is cheaper...except for decks with Jace the Mind Sculptor." LOL What a shill! Now that Fae is out of type two he has nothing to contibute to competative Magic. Don't believe the hype and don't buy the book!

WickedDealer Says:

Apr 23, 2010 - Yeah, if anything I should have rephrased the question, but it was one of the one I asked on the fly. If anything it should have been something like "What do you think it will take for you to top 8 again" or something along those lines.

WickedDealer Says:

Apr 23, 2010 - Have you actually read the book, because I have started and there are a lot of good things in it that people wanting to playing competitively should follow check out. Technically Chapin is correct in the fact that only decks that run Jace & Baneslayer cost ridiculous amounts of money to build, that doesn't mean it isn't still expensive to build decks.

WickedDealer Says:

Apr 23, 2010 - If you look at it from a deck price issue I believe Jund only costs like 2 to 3 hundred to make and that's on high side. Chapin Control which is 4 Jace, 4 Baneslayer and so on is about $950 from what Chapin himself told me during the event. That triple the price of Jund would alone tell you that non staple mythic decks are in fact cheaper.

mrblack85 Says:

Jul 10, 2010 - "THAT QUESTION OFFENDS ME!!!111"Why? It's not like he's asking to look up your sisters skirt or something. You don't work for wizards so I don't know why he took it so personally. When you make cards like Jace or Baneslayer, some of the most effective cards at the highest rarity it serves no purpose EXCEPT to move packs. An orange dot in the corner of a card is not "flavor" and I refuse to believe chapin is that naive. Those cards limit choice forcing you to play cheaper decks

vorgralax Says:

Jul 12, 2010 - if competitive decks are cheaper now, it's because of a devalued american dollar, not good choices by WoTC. I think in most cases it's not a soap box, paying as much for a deck for a season of magic as you would for a laptop or an iphone, is really bad. prices like that won't bring together a magic community, won't bring interest into the game, expect on a curiosity, freak show type of level.

Sep 26, 2010 - You poked a soft spot....

residentzombie Says:

Mar 6, 2012 - What he is saying is that due to the advent of Mythics, it has made the ares more plentigul in packs, thus increasing supply so the price of those cards goes down. The exact opposite is true though if talking about Mythics. The biggest reason Jace got to $100 is because of his rarity being a Mythic. Chapin is looking at this from the supply vs demand angle which is correct, but he just fails to view the other side.

residentzombie Says:

Mar 6, 2012 - A devalued USD would make decks more expensive, not cheaper there guy. I do agree though that the USD is being devalued. Got gold?
