Jan 2, 2011 - Moyo, is brilliant. She exposed those corrupt African leaders who are relaying on Aid except one country in the region called ERITREA, who refused accepting any kinds of Aids from the donors.

Africanbulletin Says:

Jan 27, 2011 - A Puzzle on NGOs: Haiti is referred to as a 'republic of NGOs'. It has over 3,000 NGOs (the highest per capita in the world) and still increasing every year. Yet the country has become consistently poorer. It therefore begs the question whether NGOs are really the solution to poverty? - The African Bulletin

Jan 29, 2011 - "I really don't trust the celebrity culture"--ditto!

go4gopher Says:

Jan 29, 2011 - The sad reality is that the asset based lending model we've witnessed in the West has merely created a real estate bubble, poisoned the banking sector, and jeopardized pensions. What if borrowers actually cherished the availability of credit and made concerted efforts to repay - now there is an interesting lending model.

RGT88 Says:

Jan 29, 2011 - Anglo-American model for past 25 years has been based on easy credit, too much free money, bailouts and other moral hazards. The correct way of growing an economy based on fundamentals relies on savings>capital>investment>jobs>real growth. The illusion of wealth based on a figure attached to it is nonsense. Credit should be determined by availability of savings and not government interference. It seems China has been investing in Africa because of its need for commodities.

Mar 14, 2011 - Thank you. You are an inspiration. You are also not alone.

corcaighrebel Says:

Apr 1, 2011 - Some aid is clearly counterproductive, can create a dependency culture but more important issues are highly counterproductive international policies, Western tariffs/protectionist policies, the historical imbalance in trade/power, Western support of tyrants in developing, colonial legacy, the devil is in the detail while those depending on some form of aid for survival need structured, proven alternatives before aid should be ceased, which i think would be a very drastic thing to do.

keyse091 Says:

Apr 14, 2011 - Gather all the so-called african leaders, the monkeys in suits and lock them in a room. Let the likes of Dambisa run the continent and dignity and prosperity shall return in just a decade or even less!

OsunK2 Says:

May 7, 2011 - Thank you for that comment! It's disappointing how superficial some people can be. . .Listen to the Message: she's speaking a true strategy for change in Africa!

GagnezTV Says:

May 14, 2011 - I love this. Aid lulls the local population to sleep and make them dependent on the ones giving the aid. Self-sufficiency and self-empowerment is key.-G

charbonelle Says:

Jun 22, 2011 - Africans can redeem control over their land and resources by accumulating and ministering capital, organize industry catering to under-served [low -income i.e the global majority] markets by way of commercial enterprise in the form of :Social Enterprise --(Social Programs that are turn into businesses)Small and Medium Enterprise -- (Businesses that use a franchise model)Co-operative Corporation -- ( Integrates: credit unions, worker co-op and R&D) In this way Africans can be self-reliant.

charbonelle Says:

Oct 22, 2011 - Chinweizu Ibekwe once wrote..."The central objective in decolonising the African mind is to overthrow the authority which alien traditions exercise over the African. This demands the dismantling of white supremacist beliefs, and the structures which uphold them, in every area of African life. It must be stressed, however, that decolonisation does not mean ignorance of foreign traditions; it simply means denial of their authority and withdrawal of allegiance from them."

freechechnya2 Says:

Mar 9, 2012 - I'm worried for her. She's making too much sense, she's clearly stating the solution to Africa, someone, somewhere isn't going to like that but keep speaking Dambisa, you are a breath of fresh air.

ceewats Says:

May 29, 2012 - I finished reading her book awhile back, and she is right on the mark. She definitely up there with Joe Sacco, and Guy Deleslie, two other writers who showed me the light. Let's hope for a new era of prosperity! Cheers!
