Feb 3, 2010 - so I have to tell you this was invaluable!! Sometimes I can get the grocery store to order in the Thai coconuts...usually they are already out of the hard shell, so when the kids and I found these I still bought them but I didn't have a clue how to get them open. While we didn't have the 'tool', we did utilize the apple correr ;-) and a cleaver to whack it open. thanks again!

Dec 26, 2010 - If you want to open then safely, cleanly, and efficiently, then yes. Green coconut husks are very tough. They are difficult to hold when using a small sharp knife and IMO there is a much greater risk of wounding yourself if you do it that way.

Nov 14, 2011 - I imagine if you had to depend on them for your total hydration it could be a problem. It is hard to get to that stage when you have to buy them and have an entire family wanting to drink them, you just plain run out before ill effects can be noticed.
