I considered Kevin to just be another character...Eva, I believe, has always been a misunderstood person. She never wanted to be a mother, she has many psychological issues, and Linoel Shiver wants the audience to focus on what Kevin did...very cleaver on Shiver's part :)

Example -- the scene when little Kevin was sick, and wanted the mother to read to him. She was happy until he turned around and went back to his old ways. He even destroyed / kill is baby sister. May 29, 2012 - The lady looks back on her life to try and find out where she went wrong with her son. It goes through her present life AFTER her son did the... you know what. Certain things in her life remind her of certain moments, she gets these flashbacks of BEFORE kevin did the...it goes back and forward. The point of the movie is to leave you with the question, should a mother give her child unconditional love, and you are left to decide why kevin did what he did. The final scene is a huge clue.
