Title: MONSANTO * One of the Most Evil Corporations on Earth (PT.II)

Description:
Part 2. (See sample letter at bottom or Send an Instant email: www.cban.ca/corn)Filmmaker Marie-Monique Robin discussed her recent film 'The World According to Monsanto' in which she exposes many of Monsanto's controversial practices, from concealing knowledge of toxicity of PCBs to producing genetically modified seeds and related herbicides.Monsanto has a long history of manufacturing dangerous products. In 1949, an explosion in Nitro, a Monsanto factory in the US, caused 228 workers to develop an extremely disfiguring illness caused by dioxin, a highly toxic by-product of 2,4,5-T, a powerful herbicide manufactured in the factory.Monsanto's product Roundup, an herbicide which Monsanto advertised as biodegradable, is still sprayed on crops by unprotected farmers in Paraguay even though Monsanto has already been convicted twice of false advertising for the product.Robin also denounces Monsanto for not only denying that it ever heard of Agent Orange, a herbicide sprayed by the US Army on crops during the Vietnam war and which Monsanto had in fact manufactured, but also for manipulating scientific studies to hide links between Agent Orange and cancer.According to Robin, Monsanto has bought fifty seed companies in the last ten years. In a clip from Robin's film, physicist and ecologist Dr. Vandana Shiva warns: "Once [Monsanto has] established the norm that seed can be owned as their property, we will depend on them. If they control seed they control food. It's more powerful than bombs. This is the best way to control the populations of the world."Sample Letter: Hon. Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of HealthAglukkaz.L@parl.gc.caHouse of CommonsOttawa, OntarioK1A 0A6Dear Minister Aglukkaq,I am writing to demand that Health Canada protect me and my family from untested genetically engineered 'SmartStax' com. It is unacceptable that Health Canada did not assess this GE food for health safety. This 'SmartStax' corn, with its combination of eight GE traits, was not examinied or approved by Health Canada but was authorized by Danadian Food Inspection Agency anyway.'SmartStax' was allowed to fly under the radar of Health Canada and shows me that our government's regulations of GE foods are too weak to protect me and my fellow Canadians. I demand that Health Canada stop the introduction of 'SmartStax' and that the federal government start an immediate review of all regulations for GE foods and crops.Thank you for your attention to this urgent and serious matter. I look forward to your prompt response.Sincerely, CC Hon. Gerry Ritz, Minister of Agricluture and Agri-Food RitzG@parl.gc.ca; Carol Swan, President, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, carol.swan@inspection.gc.ca; Judy Wasylycia-Leis, NDP Health Critic, WasylJ@parl.gc.ca; Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Liberal Party Health Critic, BenneC@parl.gc.ca; Luc Malo, Bloc Quebecois Health Critis, MaloL@parl.gc.ca

Apr 6, 2012 - Naive....there are many lawsuits that are settled out of court and you NEVER hear about them....because you did not hear about them, does it mean they did not happen?
CouldNotCareLes Says:
Apr 6, 2012 - Don't kid yourself.Farmers in India grow GMO crops, they get the seed from China.Google "India seed 2012"It is by far more efficient to grow grain using GMO seed.I can't point you to a website, I only know from personal experience.Les
CouldNotCareLes Says:
Apr 6, 2012 - 144 investigations, 12 lawsuits (all guilty) from 1996 - 2002.There have been no lawsuits since.If this is such a problem, why isn't it happening today?Les
mrBrrxX Says:
Apr 6, 2012 - Again with the "cost more" defense...it costs MORE to produce with GMO seeds. There has been a lot of government corruption, and bully tactics done by Monsanto, check out Wickileaks. Years ago tobacco companies adveritsed that tobacco was good for your health....which a trusting, naive public believed until the damage was done.
mrBrrxX Says:
Apr 6, 2012 - You actually sound like an idealistic 16 year old. And if you are a farmer, which I doubt, God help us all!
CouldNotCareLes Says:
Apr 6, 2012 - I am a farmer and I am 49 years old.You actually sound like you don't know what the word 'idealistic' means. All I'm posting is fact.I know farming, you know google and wikipedia.... you think you know something about this subject, God help us.Les
CouldNotCareLes Says:
Apr 6, 2012 - Ummm ... wikileaks?I'm planting corn next week. Don't you think I know the economics of my operation?I raised my family and put my kids through college. No one bullies farmers. We are not weak, we are not stupid.Give us farmers a little credit, please.Les
mrBrrxX Says:
Apr 6, 2012 - Well now I am informed.....but you seem to be right on the computer. It makes me wonder how all that corn is going to get planted. I am sick with the flu, so that is my excuse for being in front of this silly thing today. Oh and thanks, for correcting my spelling, I see that you are not only righteous, but rude as well. As beaman said, I am done with you.
CouldNotCareLes Says:
Apr 6, 2012 - According to my insurance underwriters, I can start planting April 11th. I am ready, I'll have all my corn planted in a few days. I didn't purposefully correct spelling (I don't like folks who waste everybody's time doing that) and I apologize if I came across as righteous or rude.I am a simple farmer.Have a nice Easter.Les
mrBrrxX Says:
Apr 6, 2012 - apology accepted.You have a nice Easter also.
beaman444 Says:
Apr 7, 2012 - I'd have to agree except I don't think Les is all that stupid. His handicap was summed up nicely by Upton Sinclair: "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it." I think somewhere within, Les actually knows the truth about GMOs ... but he's unwilling to admit that even to himself and then act on it, because he earns his living from them. Too bad really. Sad when people sell out like that.
OntarioCrops Says:
Apr 7, 2012 - Good luck with the spring planting this year. Most of the spring grains and alfalfa has been sown around here. Some guys in my area have already planted a few acres of corn. That might just be to brag at the coffee shop. We will wait till after April 15th for the most part.Hows the wheat looking around your area?? This mild winter should be interesting on the insect front for us.
CouldNotCareLes Says:
Apr 7, 2012 - The wheat has been up for a couple weeks here, and there is a lot of it this year. Guys have been putting on anhydrous like there's no tomorrow. The soil looks cold to me yet (I can't smell it) but the plumb trees are blooming. It's time to plant corn.Les
CouldNotCareLes Says:
Apr 7, 2012 - Yes, I know the truth. I have followed these issues closely for fifteen years, my livlihood depended on it. I have seen the NaturalNews articles and the Huffington Post articles and all the websites. I'll bet you've been 'researching' this subject since last week (by the sounds of your feeble posts on this thread.)That said, what is your solution Professor? What can I do to solve this imaginary problem?Better yet, what can YOU do?Les
beaman444 Says:
Apr 7, 2012 - I thought I was done with this Les, but let's try one more time. I'm intrigued; you say you know the truth, then list sources that support my position. Was that intended or a slip-up; maybe both?I can learn quite a lot in a week but I've been researching this for years. What can YOU do? Like I said; GMO blowback is getting huge - get into non-GMO, organic even better. What can I do? Like I said; I eat organic - I don't support the perverse GMO/chemical farm system and I feel 20 years younger.
CouldNotCareLes Says:
Apr 7, 2012 - I listed the sources that created your position.Article after article about how stupid and weak farmers are. Many sources for your claim that farmers are bullied. It's not true, but it certainly is popular opinion. It's funny that folks believe that crap.Les
beaman444 Says:
Apr 7, 2012 - "My position" is NOT that farmers are stupid and weak so the "sources that created my position" obviously didn't include such nonsense. My position is that a good percentage of farmers, along with the population in general, were sold a bill-of-goods by Monsanto and their accomplices. Now that the truth about GMOs is becoming obvious (at least to those who are willing to see it) it's time to take corrective action.
CouldNotCareLes Says:
Apr 11, 2012 - Wouldn't it be stupid to invest in a new technology without knowing the 'truth'?You are saying farmers have been growing GMOs for fifteen yeard without bothering to learn the 'truth'.((( Your 'truth' is a lie )))You are stupid to think that farmers will abandon this technology.Les
beaman444 Says:
Apr 16, 2012 - ..... This will make point 1 increasingly likely. GMO companies are already being kicked out of Europe. I think enough people in North America will have awakened within the next 5 to 10 years that point 1 will become a reality here as well. One thing is certain: I'm going to continue to do my damnedest to avoid the crap that you and your friends are producing. We've gone through this a number of times now Les, so let's just hang up the phone and see what comes about.
beaman444 Says:
Apr 16, 2012 - The only "truth" that matters to most people, including farmers, is "What's in it for me?" So farmers will continue to grow GMOs as long as they're making money. They will abandon the crap when either:1. By the same truth, enough consumers wake up and see that "what's in it for them" is poor health and sick families; or 2. The crap, now starting to fail, goes on to fail spectacularly.Point 2 likely won't happen -- they'll just keep adding stonger and more poisons.
CouldNotCareLes Says:
Apr 17, 2012 - They are finding no market in Europe. That makes sense to me ... I've been to Europe. Folks in Europe aren't interested in convenience foods, prepared and packaged ready-to-serve, fast food, etc. There is no market for GMO 'food' in Europe, they purchase fresh food ingredients and make meal preparation a part of the family's daily life. Europeans eat real food, if Americans did that, there would be no market for GMO grain (that would be a good thing.)Les
CouldNotCareLes Says:
Apr 17, 2012 - Also, there are many folks in Europe who know first hand what is like to be hungry. They don't complain about their farmers. European farmers are respected, unlike American farmers.Les
CouldNotCareLes Says:
Apr 17, 2012 - 1. I hope you are right.2. Yea, failing on the internet. In real life, they win the test plots (or else the farmers wouldn't buy them.) You are correct that the internet says GMOs are failing, but the fact that millions of acres are being planted to GMO corn this week speaks the truth.Either that or American Family Farmers are stupid.Les
xmachodonkeywrestler Says:
May 27, 2012 - Reading some of these comments reminded me of reading somewhere that monsanto literally hires people to go online to argue against and discredit people who speak ill of them.

CouldNotCareLes Says:
Apr 6, 2012 - I am a farmer.I use GMO seeds and I don't buy anything from Monsanto.I could plant non-GMo if I wanted to.If you knew anything about farming in North America, you'd know that farmers quit saving ther own seeds a couple generations ago.It sounds like you know internet myths, have you ever been on a farm?Les
