Apr 2, 2012 - To jeff62rey -- Are you my brother? You have just described EXACTLY what it was like at my house on a summer's day in Warren, MI in the 70's. My mom used to yell, "In or out, in or out" as she was trying to clean the floors we were tramping on. We stayed out for hours chilling back with popsicles, baseball cards, and wiffle ball with the kids on the block. Great times!

Apr 4, 2012 - Yep, even the part of bein' in OH (in a pool) :)...good/safe/fun times...poppin' around to some truly awesome songs...this bein' one of them :)

Apr 6, 2012 - Yes exactly, Bubble gum, certainly--carefree and fun. It reminds me of scorching summer days, my Schwinn bicycle's kickstand sinking into the melting asphalt, carnival rides and funnel cakes at a strip-mall Korvettes parking lot, a new sense of freedom and yet a strange dread that I was not yet ready for such independence, and yet determined to grab it anyway. Long summer nights, lightning bugs, a sense of beginning tinged with trepidation. As you said, bitter-sweet. Thank you, my friend!

Apr 10, 2012 - Whenever I heard this song, I always thought of my high school sweetheart when I was in the Army 1970-'72. To be honest, I still do.

Apr 11, 2012 - haha we must all be around the same age! talk about memories! i always wanted to be 'cool' like my older sis who wore flares and t-shirts and scarves in her hair.... smells of summer, playing road hockey (i sucked but there were so few kids!), bike riding, carefree summers, gum balls.... yeah!

Apr 11, 2012 - Warren, MI was a lot of the same -- we were big on Wiffle Ball, too, played it by the hours on each other's driveways (across the street was an HR!. Great times, no internet, no texting, just talking and hanging out with each other. These songs take me back there, thanks to YouTube!

Apr 12, 2012 - Even though I never bought the record and it was playing on the radio in 1970, whenever I hear of White Plains, NY, this tune plays in my head. I think I heard Rush Limbaugh make fun of this song a decade ago on his show. It must have been the time when he dropped out of college when this song was on the charts in spring 1970.

Apr 12, 2012 - I was 13 the first time I heard this on a.m. radio. I still want to get up and dance to it.

Apr 14, 2012 - oh, i think that was six or so sad twats.

NOMcSame08 Says:

Apr 18, 2012 - Yeah, probably - sorry to use such language but Rush Limbaugh isn't worth the shit that comes out of your ass. Anything that he makes fun of is obviously good, right, and true. He is the embodiment of lies, distortion, and hatred.

Apr 23, 2012 - It's funny, some of these songs you actually like better now than you did when it was a hit

jimmythec1960 Says:

Apr 25, 2012 - I know exactly what you are talking about! This was when AM radio ruled the world and we all listened to the hottest AM radio station in town that played all of this stuff. Great days and great memories from a care free era. I can relate to your posts as I was age ten in 1970.

May 16, 2012 - Feelgood music!

MyFun80s Says:

May 26, 2012 - It is amazing how a song such as this one can invoke bitter sweet nostalgic feelings and how those feelings are common to people. I am 46 and grew up in the middle east. But theose memories of hot summers, worry free times, highscool sweethearts and teen-age optimism are universal.
