May 16, 2012 - Purdie shuffle?

circuitdesign Says:

May 16, 2012 - Yes, Porcaro combined this beat with Bernard Purdie's shuffle on Steely Dan's "Home at Last" to come up with the beat for Rosanna. Brilliant!

May 16, 2012 - I agree, even though I am a drummer. But I base my opinion on seeing hundreds of bands over the years. The drummer has more control than anyone else in the band in making the music flow (or not flow). If you have a drummer that plays erratic, the music will sound erratic. If you have a drummer that plays smooth (i.e. grooves), the music will sound smooth and groove. Pretty simple, really.

May 16, 2012 - What about Beatles ? Doors ? Stones ? You can'tsay they had the best drummers...

opticverve1 Says:

May 17, 2012 - You're off your nut about a mile and a half. Ringo and especially Charlie Watts are both great drummers. I don't know who drummed for the Doors. I don't like the Doors and I don't understand why they are always included with the great British bands of the 60's

djdjany Says:

May 17, 2012 - I never heard anybody mention Starr, Watts, Mason or Densmore as the greatest '70 drummers.... did you ? C'mon, paice, bruford, cobham, bonham, mitchell, baker, morlain, moon, collins etc. were just a 1,000 miles above them !!!

May 17, 2012 - Even though I love the Beatles, Ringo is such a boring drummer - a complete snorefest. Once in a while I hear some good drums on a Beatles song only to find out it was somebody else playing on that song.

opticverve1 Says:

May 17, 2012 - Not everyone mentions Stan Musial and Dan Brouthers in a discussion of the greatest baseball players of all time, but that doesn't mean they don't belong among the elite. Also, I'm more of a 60's guy than a 70's guy, which were worlds apart in regards to drumming. I think you'd have a hard time improving Stones and Beatles recordings by simply subbing in Neil Peart or Carmine Appice, you know?

opticverve1 Says:

May 18, 2012 - also... kind of wondering who Morlain is... ??

May 18, 2012 - I'm a mystery like that?

djdjany Says:

May 19, 2012 - Pierre Moerlen (sorry I wrote it wrong) was the Gong's drummer in the '70 and he was really great. Check out "eat that phone book" from the album "angel's egg". Amazing.

RIdrummer96 Says:
