Description:
Walking all the day, near tall towers where falcons build their nestsSiver winged they fly, they know the call of freedom in their breastsSoar Black Head against the sky, between the rocks that run down to the seaLiving on your western shore, saw summer sunsets, asked for more I stood by your Atlantic sea, and sang a song for IrelandTalking all the day with true friends, who try to make you stayTelling jokes and news, singing songs to pass the night awayWatched the Galway salmon run like silver dancing darting in the sunLiving on your western shore saw summer sunsets, asked for moreI stood by your Atlantic sea, and sang a song for IrelandDrinking all the day in old pubs, where fiddlers love to playSomeone touched the bow, he played a reel, it seemed so fine and gayStood on Dingle beach and cast - in wild foam we found Atlantic BassLiving on your western shore, saw summer sunsets asked for moreI stood by your Atlantic sea, and sang a song for IrelandDreaming in the night, I saw a land where no man had to fightWaking in your dawn, I saw you crying in the morning lightLying where the Falcons fly, they twist and turn all in you e'er blue skyLiving on your western shore, saw summer sunsets asked for moreI stood by your Atlantic sea, and I sang a song for Ireland

Apr 8, 2012 - Stood on a table in the 'Mean Fiddler' in Harlesden in the late eighties and sang along with Mary to this at the top of my voice-missing Ireland like crazy despite the fact that there was nothing here for thousands of young people like myself at that time. Wow how times have changed! To me this song summed up everything that is good about our country-it's people. Or at least the ones that I grew up knowing. And it took an English couple to write it!

Apr 13, 2012 - "And it took an English couple to write it!"Aye it did that! June & Phil Colcloth and a Scotsman to 1st record it too! Sometimes it takes, those with a little detachment to see the Truth sadly!Anyways, Mary does a great version here, fair play to her!

Apr 18, 2012 - Seems like anything 'Orish' brings out the best and the worst of people. I hate the superfluese connections. I am Scottish, bur probably from France at (some) time. Let us keep this comments easy.

Apr 21, 2012 - I'm 21 and Irish,I would like if everyone could forget about the political side for a second please, this is a beautiful song which was played at my best friends funeral a few months ago,she was only 20 and died in a car accident, she loved this song!I understand peoples point of view,of course I do because I'm Irish but why can we not just appreciate this beautiful song for what is?!In a strange/weird way it makes me kind of happy because it reminds me of her...rest in peace Elizabeth x

May 18, 2012 - I was born in England of Irish parents, my family have grown up with both cultures and I love them both. Mary epitomises my Irish heritage - achingly so - but when I'm in Reading supporting the London Irish I see the other side of the coin.An chuid eile sa mháthair síochána agus daidí

May 21, 2012 - beauty and anger do not have to be strangers, a nation that was at peace with itself was put upon, we still see it throughout the world.

May 28, 2012 - I'm not Irish, not even an European. I'm Mexican. And I must say that this kind of music just melts my heart. I love all the celtic and scottish culture. And its music, well It just blows me away. This piece is just so beautiful. I don't know if I'm right but this song gives me the same feeling that Caledonia does. The longing for the motherland, the love of your country. It's the same feeling I feel everytime I listen to my National Anthem.
