Incidentally, the only film version I know of this fine book that really does justice to it is the 1943 version with Joan Fontaine as Jane, Orson Welles as Rochester, and Margaret O'Brien as Adèle, of which there are a few fragments in English and rather more in a Spanish-dubbed version on YT, though nowhere could I find the whole movie. Book's moral: beware of marrying a spouse even slightly crazy she/he may well get a lot worse!

Mar 23, 2012 - The section from about 2:05-2:15 is a good reflection of what homelessness was like for me. As a middle-class woman I was once homeless, with two small children. The shame was so hard to bear it was difficult to ask for help. I didn't know what to do, where to go, what to say, who to ask... and we did also eventually eat food others had thrown away. We got better, as she did.  But that was a hard time.
