Feb 26, 2012 - The mystique of this song is NO ONE, knows what it is about, it is a poem. Read into it anything You want and make it your own BUT! Please let everyone else do the same

LucasGoldberg Says:

Mar 6, 2012 - I love it. Bobbie did capture unconscious cruelty. It can happen in any family and does, even in the best of families. I listen to this frequently. It is a great leveller. Thank you, Bobbie. I hope you are well.

Apr 18, 2012 - This song, so haunting. The indifference of the characters as they go about their every day lives. Mesmerizing.

TrojanGoddess56 Says:

Apr 22, 2012 - Big hit during the summer of 1967. The radio stations played this song all the time during the summer months of '67. This was her only major hit.

Kntrider007 Says:

Apr 26, 2012 - I gotta say I'm not a fan of country music but good music is just good music no matter what genre. And this is GOOD music!!

jonasoblouk Says:

Apr 27, 2012 - Exactly. This song has everything that is good in song writing... a great groove, a great melody, a great story and enough mystery to keep you thinking... not to mention, it summons up the exact feeling of living in the rural South on a hot summer day.

softvalj Says:

May 1, 2012 - it was a baby that went off the bridge, aborted or hidden pregnancy, but it was a baby, then billy joe couldnt live with what they had done, and took his own life it had nothing to do with being gay as in the movie....

softvalj Says:

May 1, 2012 - that is exactly what the writer wanted to show in the song, how people just go on with every day life while tragedy strikes around them, and the fact that one of them had more involvement in it and had to sit there quietly, , i have read the original song was 7 mins long and went deeper into the life of billy joe and involved another girl named sally ann, could be a love triangle, but i think a baby went off the bridge, maybe the friend knew about it, guess we will have to live with the mystery

Phattz08 Says:

May 7, 2012 - I thought they left it open to interpretation and never conclusively revealed what it was? I always felt like a baby made the most sense.

Withshortwings Says:

May 8, 2012 - Bobbie didn't have to make it up she lived it. This is possibly the best pop/country/rock song ever written. Whatever you want to label it. It seems to rise above genre labels.

Withshortwings Says:

May 8, 2012 - Oh yeah one more thing...GOD SHE WAS GORGEOUS.

sksparks58 Says:

May 11, 2012 - love this song...she sings it like a song should be sung.

MrDisneyCollector Says:

May 12, 2012 - incredible song, written so well, so lonely, so lost. That young girl shocked as her friend's death so carelessly discussed over supper she can't eat, can't talk. No one knows the pain and shock she's in, they're too busy with the gossip. Creates a void that well have known one time or another, no on understanding how we feel, yet she tells about the feeling without mentioning it at all. That's a good story teller. That's Bobbie Gentry

pixielis1 Says:
