RITA COOLIDGE (Lafayette, Tennessee , 1 de Maio de 1945) é uma cantora e atriz norte-americana. Começou a sua carreira como membro de coros de artistas como Joe Cocker , Eric Clapton e Leon Russell. Foi uma cantora muito famosa na década de 1970 e na década de 1980. Foi casada com Kris Kristofferson de 1973 até 1980, quando se separaram."We're All Alone" foi a canção mais executada na novela O Astro, de 1977, onde era o tema de amor dos personagens Lili e Márcio, interpretados por Elizabeth Savalla e Tony Ramos. A canção e o álbum Anytime Anywhere atingiram o top 10 da Inglaterra, Canadá, Estados Unidos e Portugal.A cantora marcou presença em outras trilhas sonoras de novelas brasileiras. "Love Me Again" foi tema de Sinal de Alerta, no ano seguinte. Ainda em 1978, "You" apareceu na novela Pecado Rasgado. Em 1980, "I'd Rather Leave While I'm In Love" fez parte da trilha da novela Chega Mais.Em 1983, a sua canção All time high fez parte da trilha sonora do filme Octopussy, décimo terceiro filme James Bond. "All Time High" foi tema da novela Eu Prometo, de 1983.Outra sua canção Love came for me fez parte da trilha sonora do filme Splash (1984).Em 1997, Coolidge foi um dos membros fundadores da banda Walela, álbuns entre 1997 e 2000. The Ladys Not For SaleComments:***** (Stars) Soulful, sublime sound, June 14, 2009 The musical giants that contribute to this work include Booker T Jones who plays and sings on several tracks including two songs he co-wrote, My Crew and Everybody Loves A Winner. The album is permeated by a sense of sadness with the exception of the upbeat Donut Man, the sensual Fever & I'll Be Your Baby Tonight and the spiritual excursion Inside Of Me with its gospel backing vocals which starts out on a mournful note but soon picks up pace to become uplifting and life-affirming. Some tracks have more of a slight country flavor than others, like the moving Whiskey Whiskey (`milk of mercy'), the title track, Bird On A Wire and I'll Be Your Baby Tonight. The quality of the material and the delivery is very high throughout. Poetic lyrics abound, as on My Crew, the Whiskey song, Winner and of course the Cohen & Dylan compositions. The much covered Bird On A Wire gets a tender treatment and is rendered subtly stirring by the organ-like keyboards; this interpretation equals any of the versions on the various tribute albums to Leonard Cohen like I'm Your Fan, the I'm Your Man soundtrack, Tower of Song or Democracy by Judy Collins. Embellished by harmonica, Dylan's `Baby' is playfully performed. Kris Kristofferson co-wrote The Lady's Not For Sale, a gentle introspective number with an exquisite vocal arrangement. Not being familiar with all of Rita's work makes it hard for me to judge but this is the best by far of those of her albums that I have heard. The familiar covers still sound unique whilst the obscure songs have grown in stature and appeal. Credit must go to producer David Anderle, Booker T & Priscilla Jones, Marc Benno, and Kris Kristofferson who arranged and sings background on Whiskey Whiskey and of course had a hand in composing the title track. The beautiful lead and backing vocals, thoughtful arrangements and heartfelt playing make this 1972 album a soulful gem.
