Aug 29, 2010 - Helen's voice is pure smoke and honey. I wish she was better known in her own country. I think we don't appreciate true talent because we rarely hear it. Thank you YOUTUBE!

hughmackie Says:

Oct 25, 2010 - She owns this song. An amazing performance by a 24 year old, mature beyond her years, with the assurance and courage to sing slowly. Unforgettable.

Feb 23, 2011 - La voz cargada de brumas y nostalgia de Helen Merril y el sólo de Clifford Brown, tal vez sea Helen la mejor crooner de jazz, en su estilo supera a Julie London the smoky voice.

Jan 13, 2012 - I wish some of the NY and LA Cabaret chick singers would listen to this stuff more often. It's weird....but to find this quality....you have got to move on to a different planet. To sing with Clifford Brown, Oscar Pittiford and Jimmy Jones....you had to sing that good or these cats wouldn't do the gig! About the only female singer out there today that could do this song this good, is Natalie Cole.

Apr 9, 2012 - Geez, what GREAT shadings and dynamics (vocallly-speaking) from one of the best of the post-WW2, female vocalists. Also, a nice, (and, sometimes) fiery trumpet solo, from the late, Clifford Brown. ... Well, 60otaku3, if you don't like my comments, you can delete them, also. We'll respect the legacy of Ms. Merrill, Clifford B and others ... and not worry-about other, certain roadblocks.

Apr 10, 2012 - Thank you, my friend. This is a very fine example of Ms. Merrill, at her best. Also, the miking (microphoning) is remarkable! I'm sure this was recorded in the "heyday" of great, Mercury-type recordings of the period, engineering-wise. EmArcy, of course, was the jazz "arm" of the Mercury classical label.
