Jan 31, 2012 - I am a Yank. I have known this song since a kid, I just never understood it. Fun song. Better if you know the terms. I now understand our Aussie relatives better and I tip my hat. The movie 'On the Beach' and other things have crystalized. As I have learned, the Aussies come from a Convict society. They are Free now. 'Waltzing Matilda' is about a simple man, sees an opportunity, takes it and is punished.Anyways, I understand Aussies better.
