Jan 20, 2012 - Some people will always have a biased opinion towards tube amps. I have gotten the ultra to sound like a proper tube amp and it really does respond like one. The Axe FxII is another ball game, there is a lot you can do with these units once you really spend time with them. And after you find all the kind of things you can do with these then you'll know why the price tag is so high. Anyhow to each his own,it's a phenomenal unit.

Jan 21, 2012 - good one kid

Jan 22, 2012 - using the Axe FX II in the studio can't be beat. it's a great investment..instead of buying 10 different heads into one studio rack which costs upwards of $10,000..then you gotta worry about mics, the room that it's recorded in, etc.
sillyness3456 Says:
Jan 22, 2012 - But the sound of the real heads would be better... Are you a sound engineer? I know lots of these guys and each of them told me, that the Axe FX ist great for live gigs in really small venues, because you can have good tone, without noise on stage, what makes mixing simple. But in the studio it just isn´t the real thing. You need real amps to track really good guitar tones. Every band, that uses Axe FX only live uses real amps in the studio, even Periphery...
metallica5252 Says:
Jan 22, 2012 - on their new album they went back to real amps..but their entire self-titled album was recorded with the axe-fx..
sillyness3456 Says:
Jan 23, 2012 - As far as i know, Misha used an Engl Invader and a Diezel VH4 to track the self-titled album. The Axe FX was used for overdubs and stuff, I might be wrong, but i read that somewhere...
metallica5252 Says:
Jan 23, 2012 - you may be right..but the axe-fx II wasn't even out at that time, you don't realize how much better this unit is compared to the ultra it's like night and day. I'm not gonna be one of those "analog freaks" lol who cares if it's not a real amp when it sounds that good

Jan 29, 2012 - With Chris Broderick, he doesn't need to say it.

Feb 6, 2012 - have you ever had to go and donate to a sperm bank...in one period of time...that you actually had to keep ice to your balls later for the rest of the year cause they've turned dark blue and... dont work right?....thats how expensive this shit is ;P
MrHellcatos Says:
Feb 12, 2012 - Betcha can't use it

Mar 8, 2012 - I hope the guitar was over 18.
theriggermortis2400 Says:
Mar 9, 2012 - Anyone else wanna bet that by "using it" he means using it for everything EXCEPT the fuzz?
theriggermortis2400 Says:
Mar 9, 2012 - "Hi I'm Chris Broderick. Every time I play a guitar Mel Gibson appears at my window with a camera, a cat o nine tails, 2 nails and a hammer."
Rrrrobbo Says:
Mar 12, 2012 - still got it plugged into a meaty engl though!! XD
MileIotecrew Says:
Mar 28, 2012 - yeah because the sxe fx is only a preamp you need a power amplifier too!
Rrrrobbo Says:
Mar 28, 2012 - hey yeah i know that man but i mean if the axefx is that great why have an engl rather than a normal power amp that wouldn't colour the sound, surely he is using the meaty tube beast of the engl for gain rather than modelling it with the axefx and simply amplifying that with the power section of the amp, like i read petrucci used the axefx for demos of the last dt album but when it came to recording it didn't quite cut it compared to the mesas
461909S Says:
Apr 2, 2012 - $2600 for the processor; $750 for the companion floor controller.
gianniswildchild Says:
Apr 6, 2012 - With the axe fx you have all the types of amps, cabs and effects.Tell me how much of them you could afford with the same money?
givemeajackson Says:
Apr 6, 2012 - but still not the feel of a real amp. it can do lots of things, but it's still a compromise. if you dont want to make compromises, there's no other way then searching for the "perfect" amp and buy that imo.
Voitcu Says:
Apr 30, 2012 - How does he use it with his ENGL. Thats not even an SE 670, but I think a Fireball which doesn't even have MIDI. I'm trading in my Invader 150 for an ENGL SE and I've also just been approved for my turn on the waiting list for an AXE FX. I tried miking the Invader and XXL Pro cab and hated the sound so I'm now opting for direct recording. Seems like less hassle, esp. doing away with the vocal booth in the living room, which may be why it didn't sound so great. I don't want to ruin my hearing.

May 5, 2012 - = money well spent
brandon9271 Says:
May 28, 2012 - In this video he is using an Ultra, which you can buy new from Fractal for $1600 or used on ebay for about $1300.. Chris is now using the FX 2 I believe which IS 2600 but you get $400 when your name comes up on the waiting list.. so its a "measly" $2199 :) lol
