Jan 27, 2012 - I've seen Hamlet jillions of times, but I think David Tennant is the best. Patrick Stewart is always best.

Feb 7, 2012 - Lol my name's Oliver Davies. Sorry, I'm probably not supposed to say Lol on a video of a Shakespeare production am I?

Wodism Says:

Feb 12, 2012 - Gibson and Branagh are better. Just because he does an awesome Doctor doesn't make him a good Hamlet. Way too hammy. At least Gibson's Hamlet warranted hamminess, but this. Just no.

Wodism Says:

Feb 19, 2012 - I understand it differs. I really like parts of Tennant's Hamlet, but I think he goes a bit overboard with the acting crazy is all. It's just off putting. I'm just saying it gets a bit hammy, and too hammy for me at times.

Wodism Says:

Feb 19, 2012 - I love the quiet, dangerous, "maybe he's actually broken" kind of crazy, but at the parts where Hamlet is acting crazy I think Tennant goes a little too hammy with the faces and the voices and whatnot. Most actors play the wacky craziness with whimsy, but Tennant goes more silly than whimsical imo. I guess that's where I disconnect, and it kind of hurts my perception of him for the rest of the play, in which he does do a more than respectable job.Still, to each their own.

Feb 22, 2012 - Maybe it's my pre-existing love for all things Tennant, but I love this version of Hamlet. I think this scene is the best, because he's almost scary in how manic he gets, but then he also manages to cam down and sound more sane in certain parts. I think he's fantastic.

Mar 4, 2012 - AllyMonkey123.... hahaha, good catch. What he says is "Do you not come your tardy son to chide..."? I keep seeing facial/hearing verbal "Doctor" ticks... however I do very much like Tennants Hamlet!!

LovMeh1 Says:

Mar 14, 2012 - i swear i thought hamlet was about to do his own mother! Insanity!

Mar 29, 2012 - Yes absolutely. It still doesn't look good though. I almost wanna flag this as inappropriate.

Apr 17, 2012 - Especially the Mel Gibson version...that closet scene was horrible.

IzDiaries Says:

Apr 17, 2012 - I agree completely. Saw that when I was in high school. I think the entire class was collectively traumatized by it; I know I was.

timrob12 Says:

Apr 20, 2012 - 0:08 For a second I thought William Hartnell came running into the scene!

himrawkz Says:

Apr 21, 2012 - have you ever seen the kenneth branagh version? Particularly the "words" scene with Polonius. Now There is some silliness. I like this Hamlet. There are supposed to be some giggly moments in there and I think he accomplishes that very well. It's never going to suit everyone perfect I suppose but I wouldn't have a problem with the manic disposition really.

Wodism Says:

Apr 22, 2012 - Branagh's "words" scene... Yes... I can agree there. Not entirely consistent, Branagh, but I do like the power and menace behind some of his scenes in Hamlet. I've looked into Tennant's Hamlet after I posted my original post, and I've warmed up to it. Still not my favorite, but I can get over the ham. It's Hamlet, so I should expect a helping of ham with it. Gibson, Branagh, Tennant, they all do very well in some parts, that I won't deny. Tennant does a good job in many scenes.

MorroccoSurrogate Says:

Apr 24, 2012 - Maybe, but I do think Gertrude is being played with much of the same old Oedipal undercurrents. I don't mind it; I like the tension it gives to the scene.

thoseDANGneighbors Says:

Apr 26, 2012 - god. David is so brilliant in this scene..

antaloliver Says:

May 17, 2012 - 5:21 Did he say "TARDIS"? :D
