Title: 5-year-old future Muay Thai Fighter (Team) demonstrates The Wai Kru @ Tiger Muay Thai
Added: Jun 1, 2010
Author: NakMuayThai
Duration: 2:31
Description:
5 year old future Muay Thai fighter Team (son of the famous Muay Thai champion Fasuchon Sit O) demonstrates the traditional Wai Kru at Tiger Muay Thai & MMA Training Camp's monthly BBQ Beatdown 25 on May 29, 2010. The wai khu ceremony is a Thai ritual in which students pay respects to their teachers in order to express their gratitude and formalize the student--teacher relationship. It is regularly held near the beginning of the school year in most schools in Thailand. Wai khu has long been an important rite in the traditional martial and performing arts, as well as in astrology and other traditional arts; students and performers of Muay Thai and Krabi Krabong, as well as Thai dance and classical music, will usually perform a wai khru ritual at their initiation as well as before performances to pay respect and homage to both their teachers and the deities who patronize their arts.http://www.tigermuaythai.com

Nov 22, 2011 - @craigster97... A Mongkol is something which demands great respect by the people who handle it and wear it. When a Fighter is wearing his Mongkol, nothing is suppose to touch his head, this why you see Thai fighters always entering the ring by climbing over the top rope of the ring and never in between. Nowadays, the trainer removes the Mongkol from the fighter's head after the Wai Khru, but in the old day it was supposed to be worn throughout the fight.

Nov 22, 2011 - @craigster97... He has on his head is called a Mongkol and it does not signify rank as Muay Thai has no such ranking system. A Mongkol is a headband which was traditionally worn (only in white) by the soldiers of Siam to protect them in battle. Due to the fact that Muay Thai has been developed out of the old unarmed battlefield techniques of the Siamese army, this tradition was also incorporated in the culture of Muay Thai.
