Title: THE BAND live at Big Pink 1969 "Up On Cripple Creek" beyond rare
Added: Nov 11, 2008
Author: WolfEchoes
Duration: 2:37
Description:
Incredible footage of The Band (said to be) from the house they called Big Pink (Bob Dylan's "club house"). Up On Cripple Creek - Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm, Garth... everyone sweet and young and rockin'.Although this turns out to not be Pig Pink, the footage is equal to the time frame and area.Awesome stuff this one, big time rare and early.** Introduction by Robbie + Grace Slick speaks for a few seconds part way through).**Regardless of location, it is excellent footage...

Apr 29, 2012 - First American group to appear on TIME magazine?... i think they meant Canadian... if not I don't see how one member being American and the rest Canadian makes them an "American band" they originated in Toronto...

May 1, 2012 - The Band is so good. This sounds like authentic, American folk. But is it authentic? Here's a group that's almost entirely Canadian. Here's music conceived, for the most part, in upstate New York. Here are albums recorded in NYC and LA. And this is folk? Or, rather, old-time-southern-rock n' roll-folksy-funk from mountains and mines and cotton fields, whatever So what constitutes authenticity? Need it be American if it sounds American? Is The Band a brilliant example of broad cultural diffusion?
mhotter Says:
May 1, 2012 - I guess you've never been to some parts of Upstate NY - especially back in the day, there's some country folk in those woods - good place to make roots rock. also, beside Levon being from the South, the whole band toured the State, deep South, New Orleans, years before Dylan met up with them. They paid their dues - i know sure as hell you people didn't.Neil Young is also from Toronto - you want to question his authenticity too?

May 4, 2012 - We'll miss you Levon Helm!
paulkrupa Says:
May 14, 2012 - Do realize how insulting that is? Americans come from North America or South America. Canadians are not Americans? Yes Levon Helm is the only band member from the United States and Arkansas to be precise. It seems to me that Mr. Helm is a big part of the character of the band. On the other hand, the other members did not get out of bed and start acting like Arkansans so there must be something in the water up there in Canadia that makes them act like that too.
paulkrupa Says:
May 14, 2012 - No, if you stop thinking America is the center of the universe, you might think of your neighbors in a different light. It's not trolling.
MattHatter Says:
May 19, 2012 - You never know what to call The Band. They were non classifiable. Maybe "Lincoln Rock?" I wonder if Robbie and Levon ever patched things up between the two of them.
zkxb Says:
May 19, 2012 - Way before Little Pink Houses there was Big Pink.
13thfloor990 Says:
May 20, 2012 - I never said America was the center of the universe.
13thfloor990 Says:
May 20, 2012 - I also don't think I've ever thought that. I was just trying to correct the misleading video narration which stated that The Band was "American." Levon was the only Band member born in the US which I believe "American" refers to.
paulkrupa Says:
May 20, 2012 - Yeah, I'm sure you don't. I say someone is being un-American and I don't think anybody thinks I am talking about anybody but US citizens. So perhaps, my comment was a troll-like comment. But I do think we Americans (United Statians) take a lot for granted. But by any measure, The Band has got to be one of my favorites even with Robbie Robertson's ego.

May 28, 2012 - Crap, what an idiot I have been all my life thinking that "only" the United States" is America. The entire Continent is America. Yes, the U.S.A. is the United States of America, but Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argintina and others you see, are all American countries.
