Jan 2, 2012 - god this is so wrong, first of all never beatgrid on the first kick because the majority of time in edm the first kick has a crash or an intro sound that clutters up the waveform so you can see properly, you pick a random kick along the line and then grid back on the first, also you should be zooming in all the way rather than just being int he general area of the kick as you are doing...

Jan 23, 2012 - I, as many others it seems are wondering, "That's all fine and good in a perfect world where drums are electronicly produced and in perfect time, they can be mixed all day long" But what about actual real life songs one would play at let's say a wedding, like Brick House, Celebration, you know, actual songs that people request are are played by a drummer, how does one beatgrid them, Will somebody please make a vid on that? perhaps how to do an "in beat grid" and an "out beat grid"

Feb 2, 2012 - it depends on the music urban beats like hip hop and dnb etc go off the snare for house and techno go off the beat

DeeJayEndo Says:

Feb 8, 2012 - Yes, check out my latest tutorial on how to beatgrid tracks with a live drummer & Disco records on the Dubspot Youtube Channel - Endo

DeeJayEndo Says:

Feb 8, 2012 - I disagree - set a grid marker on the first kick drum in the track, then match the metronome to the track with your EAR, not your eye. You are basically doing the beatmatching with the Metronome. This is how all the pro's do it. People like Victor Calderone, Sasha, Dubfire, Nic Fanciulli, Pete Tong, David Morales were all trained with my method of beatgridding and do this method with every track in their libraries.

DeeJayEndo Says:

Feb 8, 2012 - your a fail.

DeeJayEndo Says:

Feb 8, 2012 - Yup this is an older version of Traktor. The concepts are still the same in this version though except the metronome is the headphones icon in the grid panel now. - Endo

Andreilg3 Says:

Feb 8, 2012 - why would I do it by ear when I can't hear the difference between a .01 difference in bpm while my vision can, what I do is I just grid on the first kick (the moment i see any actual waveform being formed) and I make sure that it is identical throughout the entire track, the only flaw I see in my system is kick cancelling while your way won't have the tracks in sync

DeeJayEndo Says:

Feb 8, 2012 - Thats like saying that because the waveforms are lined up in serato the beats are perfectly matched. Listen I won't argue with you, I do this for a living. Trust me, doing it by ear is the right way to get your beatgrids 100% accurate. After a while you start to develop an ear for it and all of your grids will be 100% accurate. If you rely on the waveform your metronome won't match up with the groove of the record sometimes and your syncing won't work correctly.

Andreilg3 Says:

Feb 9, 2012 - I understand what you are saying but honestly doing it by ear just sounds like do it based off where the kicks "click" right than the actual spot of the song everything should be in, I am not trying to argue but if I have two kicks that click at different points wouldn't that mean that everything is shifted? meaning the stabs, melodies, etc.. are all of out of phase..., yea the kicks might be better but its not just about the kicks is it?

Feb 9, 2012 - hey mate thankyou much appreciate the video on beat gridding a lot of tutorials do explain how to use traktor pro but i always have question to ask as it hasnt explained it in the way i need to know you however have just answred my prayers thankyou so much........................ ian ;-)

DeeJayEndo Says:

Feb 9, 2012 - I never said to listen to the kicks. I said to place the Grid Marker on the first kick. This is good because it serves as a good cue point. Once you have the grid marker set on the first kick, listen to the rest of the track and the groove with the metronome (kicks, snares, hats etc) and make sure the metronome is grooving with the track. If the snare's are out of phase or melodies, just shift the grid until it is beatmatched with everything as a whole and sounds best. Following me?

Andreilg3 Says:

Feb 9, 2012 - I understand what you're saying now, but I still don't really know what you mean by metronome grooving, I thought the metronome is supposed to allign with the kicks...and I listen to melodic trance, not much groove in there

Ridgeleyy Says:

Apr 9, 2012 - So you have to do this with every song?
