http://www.wftv.com/irresistible/20682762/detail.html TAMPA, Fla. -- A Florida man born without arms says a Tampa-area bank would not let him cash a check because he could not provide a thumbprint.Steve Valdez didn't have an account at a Bank of America location in downtown Tampa, where he tried to cash a check from his wife last week. However, Valdez has prosthetic arms and is unable to provide a thumbprint. He says he presented two forms of identification but was still denied.He says a bank manager told him that he could either come back to the bank with his wife or open an account himself.Bank of America spokeswoman Nicole Nastacie says the bank has apologized to Valdez. Nastacie says the bank should have "offered alternative requirements if an individual is not able to give a thumbprint."

Apr 4, 2011 - HE didn't write the check, his WIFE wrote the check to him, on her BoA account. He took it to the bank for cashing, and they wouldn't cash it for him - told him to go get his wife (who was at work) or open an account, and that those two options were in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). When tv news pressed BoA, they said the tellers should have "accommodated" him in a different manner. Probably, kick him out before he got in the door, for having no arms.

Apr 4, 2011 - I think some people are confused: this guy ISN'T the guy who was refused. The guy who was refused can be seen in a news clip here on YT, he's a white guy. This guy is upset about it, and acting it out, while telling the story and voicing his outrage. It is nice to know that there are still people out there who care about what happens to others, instead of just themselves. We need to band together people against corps & shareholders! SHAREHOLDERS ARE MAKING THINGS EXPENSIVE FOR THE REST OF US!
