Title: Will Hunting had it right 14 years ago

Added: Jul 31, 2010

Author: compelled2283

Duration: 2:41

Description:
My favourite scene from Good Will Hunting and pertinent to the principles of liberty in its condemnation of killing people abroad who have done no harm to you personally. Taken to it's logical conclusion this belief should lead anybody who holds it to a pure libertarian position; though most won't, of course.

May 21, 2012 - wants to overrule him/her it can. Making the government a system of power that is very small in number. Although, modern day philosophies of government such as conservatism wants the government to be without a lot of power through strict conservatism. People in the US fail to realize that the government of the US is really liberal due to the fact that its hand is more nationalistic rather than state-wide. The states really have no power. This country needs to change or else doom will happen.

FeedThemCake Says:

May 23, 2012 - In America's history, it's happened over and over and over again. The U.S has overthrown dozens of democracies and installed countless dictators.

MrEdwardRMurrows Says:

May 23, 2012 - ha 2.50 a gallon

akamaster09 Says:

May 23, 2012 - something tells me the producer of this film was trying to tell his government to wake the fuck up.

busby3141592 Says:

May 24, 2012 - I agree, and in a perfect world I'd love for there to be no state, and have a classless society - but I don't think it would work, and I think getting there would be impossible. So at the moment I advocate reform of government - trying to educate people to vote in there own intrests, and trying to reform the parties from the inside to be more equitable - not of outcomes, but of beginnings, so everyone has a shot. Government will never be perfect, but at least it's democratic.

SentinelConvergence Says:

May 24, 2012 - I suspect that most anti-statists would agree with you. However, they probably would disagree with you that meaningful reform is possible due to the nature of 'the beast', so to speak.I think they'd also be somewhat dubious as to the efficacy of representative democracy. Some go as far as to question democracy itself.

busby3141592 Says:

May 24, 2012 - Yes I find this last part very frightening, statism brings some bad things - but it does bring us representative democracy - which is a step forward in my opinon, as long is it is kept in check by a good media - something which I think is to blame for a lot of current problems.~They seem far too concerned with the tyranny of a democratic state, than they do of the tyranny of multinational companies controlled by an exceedingly small amount of people, who a lot of the time inherent there wealth

SentinelConvergence Says:

May 24, 2012 - The matter of 'representative democracy' aside, I wasn't solely referring to the U.S. libertarian tradition that arose in the 20th century. The mutualist writer Kevin Carson coined the term 'vulgar libertarians' to describe the latter types. Supposed champions of the free market, they engage in corporate apologia, defending the current economic order, whilst ignoring that many of these organisations insulate themselves from market forces through their links with the state.

busby3141592 Says:

May 24, 2012 - Yeah, I talk with people about US libertarianism so much nowadays that when I say the term I don't even consider left libertarian traditions when I talk about it.

dummychaos Says:

May 25, 2012 - It's amazing how much content they put in one scene. That's what makes me love movies.

HmTastySoup Says:

May 25, 2012 - LMAO WHAT THEU FUKK I DNT UNDRSTNDT A SINGLE FUCK IN DIS SHIT. MA HOMES N MEE POP CAPS ON DOSE NERDS ON A DAILY BASIS HAHAHAHA

playsbba018 Says:

May 25, 2012 - Yeah, like the federal government doesn't have it's mouth wrapped around the elite's dicks? It doesn't matter if it's state's rights or federal rights. Both are controlled by private interest groups that have broken our constitution and sold it for profit. The only solution is to take back the constitution and abolish the ownership control. In my humble opinion, this starts with the central banking system...but that's just me. It's a long way back.

keithoyoung34 Says:

May 25, 2012 - exceptionalism??your fucking joking right

halflifeproductionz Says:

May 26, 2012 - haha fucking hilarious!

FeedThemCake Says:

May 27, 2012 - 27 million slaughtered worldwide by American Imperialism. You refer to these victims as "marginalized"?? Really?

AcesHighAlkalyn Says:

May 27, 2012 - good movie.

GodlessXVIII Says:

May 27, 2012 - Are they not marginalized (invisible) Others in any mainstream political discussion in the US? How many times are the hundreds of millions of foreigners killed by Americans ever brought up in polite company? Compared to the killcount of Nazis or Soviets? In this very video, the intelligence officers are completely obfuscating the possibility that their work might be adverse to the interests of anyone. It's all about cool toys and power mystique. The victims ARE marginalized by the empire.

Jakexx01 Says:

May 27, 2012 - That is one way to look at life. But while doing so remember Will's complete character in the film. These would have to be the rantings of what is no doubt one of the most emotionally screwed up individuals any of us would have ever had the opportunity to know. The entire dialogue though splattered with bits of truth is steeped in internalized fear and self loathing. This is JUST A MOVIE not an outlook I'd base my belief system on. Many seem to fail to notice that from celebs. An opinion only.

5xOver Says:

May 28, 2012 - Will Hunting has it right now.

YourReligionisWrong Says:

May 28, 2012 - Do you feel alone Will?

eyerishiam Says:

May 29, 2012 - I'm that guy with the shrapnel in his ass, though I live 10 miles North of Boston.I am a US Army veteran,& anyone who believes that the US government has it's citizens best interests at heart,in any scenario,is sadly mistaken.War is not only big business,it serves as a population control device.A win/win for the government, dead men don't draw pensions, the higher the kill ratio, the lower the unemployment rate.

ListenandQuestion Says:

May 29, 2012 - yeah like the 4,000 plus pensions are really going to make a difference... that point is quite idiotic.. everything else was fine

Pyroman2525 Says:

May 29, 2012 - and Americans in general should fight the urge to rape, pillage, and kill with impunity across the entire planet.

GodlessXVIII Says:

May 29, 2012 - Be careful what you wish for, now they have skynet robots to do it for them.

itsjjooee Says:

May 30, 2012 - such a good scene.
