Title: Multiverse Doppelgangers: Do Many Versions of You Exist?
Added: Oct 6, 2011
Author: ForaTv
Duration: 2:23
Description:
Complete video at: http://fora.tv/partner/IdeaFestivalTheoretical astrophysicist Suketu Bhavsar examines the probability that many versions of you exist in a universe that expands infinitely.-----One of the more intriguing and bizzare theories concerning the world we live in involves the concept of the "multiverse"...the notion that we exist as part of a much larger whole involving many, if not an infinite number of "worlds." Suketu Bhavsar, Professor of Astrophysics at Cal Poly Pomona, delves into the structure and possibilities of the "multiverse" on both the large, cosmological and very small, subatomic level.Presented by the University of Kentucky.Much more than a conference, the IdeaFestival is a catalyst for high-speed innovation, product development, and creative endeavors. This series of events attracts leading thinkers and curious minds from across the nation and around the globe.

Oct 8, 2011 - This is not impossible, but intuitively I don't believe it. In elementary arithmetic, there are hypothetically an infinite number of numbers between +1 and +2 on the number line. Nevertheless, none of them is the number +3.
RestInPieces777 Says:
Oct 8, 2011 - "There are no actual infinities"Yes, no fucking shit. There's no evidence that the concept is even cognitively meaningful. That's what I'm saying, asshole. You're apparently the one who doesn't know what the word means. How is it not logically possible that there can be both infinite suffering and joy (assuming that infinity is possible)?
nicolanthon25 Says:
Oct 8, 2011 - Maybe this could theorize or explain the concept of ghosts... ???
MinotawrTV Says:
Oct 8, 2011 - No
TheAzionist Says:
Oct 8, 2011 - How is my explanation of infinite self-contradictory? I assure you it is not, it's simply highly unintuitive. This shouldn't be so disturbing, as the universe itself seems to be completely unintuitive in its basic mechanics. Why should an infinite be intuitive when even the very finite do not seem to be? Why can't an infinite exist? Please explain how you have discredited infinite completely? Surely, it's very possible.
TheAzionist Says:
Oct 8, 2011 - Earth is a pretty nice place, if you ask me. This is my primary problem with the idea of heaven/hell. It just really seems to take the focus away from just how bloody nice we have it! It totally misses the point, unless of course, I'm totally missing the point.
AnomalisticD Says:
Oct 8, 2011 - I WILL BE THE ONE!!!!
superoriginalname Says:
Oct 9, 2011 - this sounds more and more like our life is bullshit
Khavyet Says:
Oct 9, 2011 - @TheAzionist @Skindoggiedog infinity is just our way of saying the biggest number that exists. It only has meaning for mathematics and and other sciences. Infinity is just a way of saying inexplicably much. Because well linguistic is different from math. And besides try and even comprehend the number: 234478797915154648789 you can't? Well that's because our brain isn't capable of comprehending such numbers that why we say infinity.
TheLonelyImmortal Says:
Oct 9, 2011 - This is speculation to the point of fiction. It's not science anymore. And since no one has evidence of other universes, no one should be talking about "other versions of yourself".
clorofilazul Says:
Oct 10, 2011 - To get this information on the link (FORA.TV) you have to pay... Pitty.TED doesn´t to that.
MartianStories Says:
Oct 10, 2011 - Yes. But the real question we have to ask ourselves is: is there a multiverse, can it even possibly exist?!, in which there is a copy of each of us that is entirely straight? I don't believe it.
pleeppleep Says:
Oct 10, 2011 - there are probably thousands
MartianStories Says:
Oct 10, 2011 - You have science confused with religion.Only in religion must you "HAVE FAITH" that something is or is not until you see it.In science, you are expected to dream, to fantasize, to think of the craziest question possible. Then try to make guesses about what it would be like. Then, if you can think of a way to, come up with an experiment that might demonstrate that some of your guesses are born out by observation.Til then, dream away. The world is a BORING place otherwise.
MichaelnChristine Says:
Oct 10, 2011 - Ahhh censorship..
mattghtpa Says:
Oct 13, 2011 - Wait, did you read what I wrote?
RestInPieces777 Says:
Oct 14, 2011 - Yes. You seem to be saying that people are denying scientific truths out of some misplaced sense of fear or self-worship. That's not what I'm seeing in the comments.
mattghtpa Says:
Oct 14, 2011 - I'm saying fear, denial, hubris do sometimes interfer with true scientific exploration.
RestInPieces777 Says:
Oct 15, 2011 - Obviously. But I'm not seeing that in the comments. The comments seem pretty reasonable.
shanedawsonluv123 Says:
Dec 5, 2011 - If you were to multiply 7,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 atoms times 60,000,000,000That would be all the atoms in the human race. And, if you were to take all of those atoms and fuse them together, it would be the size of a sugar cube.
jayejayeee Says:
Jan 20, 2012 - good work here

Jan 31, 2012 - some really good stuff here
steverock85 Says:
Feb 5, 2012 - With this knowledge good sir, I am going to have a cup of coffe with two cubs of sugar >) (muhaha)

karmaGfa Says:
Oct 7, 2011 - I like his global idea, but that's only valid for finite things: I am not even sure that a atom can be described in a finite way, the same goes for my whole body.
