May 3, 2012 - don't apply solder like this! it causes cold solder joints because the rosin in the solder doesn't clean the surface. it may work now, but it's very easy for it to break off. use the iron to heat up the surface and apply the solder directly to it.

May 9, 2012 - Don't use 9v batteries... they're horrible, low energy and expensive. Just use a regular 12v wall wart or some universal dc adapter on which you can cut the jack off. Even a 7.5v-9v will do, the fan will spin fast enough.Don't use a linear regulator to get 12v out of 18v, the difference gets converted to HEAT, so you're dissipating about 1-2 watts into the metal case... pointless waste of energy and you heat up everything.

May 20, 2012 - how ironic, you need to solder for to make a filter for soldering...
CorneliusSneedley Says:
May 21, 2012 - You are, of course, technically correct, but then you would have to plug in your Altoids tin to use it. :)
CorneliusSneedley Says:
May 21, 2012 - It just struck me how much it would suck if Altoids suddenly stopped coming in tins. There are projects all over the internet that use them.
CorneliusSneedley Says:
May 21, 2012 - "And now it's time to see if everything fits in our tin...oops, no, doesn't fit, sorry, folks." :P
RetroCaptain Says:
May 21, 2012 - You hold the hot iron on it too long, & the plastic case melted inside!Components like transistors etc are destroyed the same way.Just meant for a "touch" long enough to melt a wee bit of solder.
RetroCaptain Says:
May 21, 2012 - Ginsu knife!Start by poking a hole, then cut.Other way id those shorty hacksaws.Other way...no screen needed at all!! Use a drill, drill many small holes!Or if no drill, use a nail, & poke many holes! Sand the metal after.
raxaxaganaz Says:
May 22, 2012 - yeah,I realize it now...but,thanks for the advices..
