Apr 13, 2011 - Supine? Isn't it called side-lying position? Supine is when the patient is at his/her back. But now, at least I know how CSF looks like. And ouch, I'm not sure if I have to do this as a nurse but I know I need to know this because I will be with the doctor as a nurse, taking care of my patient.

timlok123 Says:

Apr 16, 2011 - what is the purpose of the manometer?to control the amount of the aspiration?

mrbarron02 Says:

Apr 17, 2011 - The purpose of the manometer is to measure the pressure CSF in the spinal cord, which is continuous with the CSF in the brain. Thus, it is a measure of intracranial pressure.

Jan 30, 2012 - Please read special report on Complications of lumbar puncture and their preventions through Altraumatic lumbar puncture needles! Stop hospitals and neurosurgeons using cheap needles and calling back in for a blood patch procedure to stop the headache they caused in the first place! (low CSF pressure syndrome) Ask for the type of needles they are going to use! bevel tip or atraumatic or pencil tip such as Sprotte or Whitacre best. You don't want to meet PDPH believe me!
