Title: U2 - Lemon - Zoo TV: Live From Sydney

Added: Aug 2, 2008

Author: TriplexBergin

Duration: 5:18

Description:
One of only 10 live performances of the oddest song on their oddest album (Zooropa) - masterfully done. Bono is dressed up as one of his Zoo TV alter-ego's, in this case the washed-up yet stylish, pseudo-British Mr. MacPhisto - a cross between the devil and a man who had lost his soul somewhere down the line and represented those outmoded stars who end up performing in Vegas. The name originates from a humanoid devil formed creature known as MePhistopheles.I call Zooropa their oddest album because the songs on it themselves are a far cry to anything U2 have ever released before or since - think Daddy's Gonna Pay, think Numb, the Wanderer, even the title track itself. Throughout their career in music U2 have been synonymous with Edge's distinctive chords and Bono's passion reaching out in his voice. It's however abandoned in Lemon. Just try playing it to someone who doesn't know it - I guarantee they'll never recognise it as a U2 song. Bono's falsetto and Edge's tremolo mean that it's on another level to your typical U2 song.

Jun 25, 2011 - Zooropa Tour was better then the 360 Bullshit tour. I'm glad I was part of it.U2 is not the same anymore

Jun 27, 2011 - Amen brother , This tour was fkn immense...for me U2 should of retired after PoP....Pop was the cherry ontop of the mountain for me...it was all downhill from there..

neckisstiff Says:

Jun 27, 2011 - Did you go to the "All that you can leave behind tour" or the "Elevation" tour? I did, and they were about the same

DontLookAtTheTurtle Says:

Jul 15, 2011 - Have you been to 360? I was, and it BLEW MY MIND. I think it's awesome, you can't expect them to come up with another Zoo TV at the age of 50.It was called Zoo TV Tour, not Zooropa Tour, by the way. Get your facts straight.

neckisstiff Says:

Jul 15, 2011 - Yeah, I went to the 360 Tour and it sucked ass !!! I've been to the Zoo Tv tour, PopMart Tour, Elevation Tour, Vertigo Tour. And it doesn't matter if I called it the Zooropa Tour, Zoo TV Tour same fucking thing. U2's last album was a joke... that's why i downloaded it, instead of actually paying money for the CD. Nothing is better the Zoo TV tour PERIOD. End of Story !!!!

102tt Says:

Jul 19, 2011 - I think that one of whole things why this song is better in LIVE performance is this:They change chords in chorus (Midnight...)In studio version is: F#, C#, HLive version is: F#, C#, Esmi, H

tantradrewien Says:

Jul 22, 2011 - Id disagree with that but everyone has there own opinion.

DanielThomas234 Says:

Jul 28, 2011 - I agree. I always liked the chorus inthis version better than the studio recording. That extra chord just lifts it so much :)

Sep 9, 2011 - bono iz hooooot lol

mdmomof7 Says:

Sep 10, 2011 - Why would you want them to be the same? Same is a death knell to any artist. Push, push, push. You've got SAME w/ every other group! Who has stayed together for 30 years - experimenting, failing, soaring? Appreciate them for who they are then, now, and will be. You liked the Lemon era, someone else the 360, and another their genesis. U2 is who they are because they are always changing and yet remain the same.

JamesVibe Says:

Feb 6, 2012 - I love POP. When they came out of the lemon - that was fffing fantastic!!!!

unforgettablefirefan Says:

Mar 5, 2012 - This was the last tour where Bono really had that quality voice. It matured from War all the way up to Achtung Baby and just went. Not Bono's fault, of course, that's what touring will do to you after 10 years. I love U2, but there's no denying that there's something lacking from Bono's voice these last 10 years or so, except for his rendition of Pavarotti's parts in Miss Sarejevo. That being said, he's still showing alot of the younger singers how to do it...

JeffBend Says:

Apr 17, 2012 - far and away my favourite song on Zooropa.

DesertEagle97531 Says:

Apr 22, 2012 - When I first watched this DVD, I was pleasantly surprised at how well this song worked in a live environment. I didn't think it would work live, but after seeing this performance I saw that I couldn't have been more wrong. This version blows the album version out of the water by a long shot!

pixargod Says:

May 4, 2012 - U2's later tours would be forever under the shadow of the Zoo TV tour after this.
