May 29, 2012 - Aykroyd immigrated from Canada to the US in the 70's, where he spent essentially his entire professional life, and became a naturalized citizen. So yes, he's an American (though I admit I don't know if he became a citizen before or after this was recorded). I didn't notice Geldof before, but if he's there, it's because "USA For Africa" was intended to be an American version of the (essentially) British Band Aid, which Geldof organized, and presumably they invited him to honor that connection.
