Dec 11, 2010 - I'm curious about the image being inverted. What type of optical construction is this lens? A catadioptric? Refractor? Is there some way to judge the altitude of the Shuttle from the LED readout? If not, how do the people viewing these films tell how high the Shuttle is at any given point in the film? Maybe that information is not important. Please give us more detail. We can handle it!
UncannySkill Says:
Dec 11, 2010 - They mention it's a catadioptric lens during the feature video.

Dec 11, 2010 - @pxjanders, Since they have excellent time coding on the images it's probably easy to look up the exakt position of the shuttle from the radar tracking.

Dec 12, 2010 - it was an internal DVD, but maybe given the response we can convince the higher ups to make it available to the public or at least a high res download.

Mar 17, 2012 - Thank you!! I appreciate these videos and your efforts. I found this video quite by accident through Devour.com and have enjoyed every minute. I will miss the manned space program and the shuttles. I remember thinking when Apollo 11 was on the moon, "This is it; this is the highest, the best we'll ever do as a people." The Shuttle program extended that sense for a good 30 years.
