Mar 28, 2012 - Interesting how the airspeed didn't change during the entire approach. You fly the jet into the ground - it didn't seem like there was a flare maneuver like in a smaller plane.
MrEdMooreDOP Says:
Mar 28, 2012 - The autothrottle is engaged until just before the landing. You can tell because of the MCP SPD readout in the upper left and you can see it's set to hold 141 knots by the readout at the top of the speed tape on the left side.

Mar 28, 2012 - These graphics are awesome, which flight sim mods are you using?
ninjadude92584 Says:
Mar 28, 2012 - @mueeter its not a flight sim
djfreak123 Says:
Apr 1, 2012 - Ok you're a captain based on your handle so I'm not about to get into a Bible quoting contest with a nun, BUT I observe both VOR/LOC and G/S illuminated indicating that it's an ILS landing in which case neither the pilot nor co-pilot are in control until touchdown.

Apr 2, 2012 - Is not real the HUD, is montage -.-
manuellcamelo Says:
Apr 2, 2012 - X-Plane sounds
megrune94 Says:
Apr 3, 2012 - That HUD is installed in the 737.. It's called HUD as it is a "head's up display" which means that you can have your head up and out the window and get all the information you need on the HUD so you don't have to look down on the instruments.
rfresh1011 Says:
Apr 5, 2012 - @djfreak you are obviously not a pilot. I had to laugh at your post. I'm a pilot and I can assure you I have flown many ILS approaches manually. flying an ILS approach does NOT mean the auto pilot is flying the plane.
TrueCourse Says:
Apr 6, 2012 - Hehe. Sounds like someone's sharpening their Ginsu knives at the same time they're landing :)
nj4ck Says:
Apr 7, 2012 - I dedn't even know 737s had HUDs.
nj4ck Says:
Apr 7, 2012 - lol would be funny if it would mean that. pilots would be obsolete haha :)
FlyGuy2480 Says:
Apr 9, 2012 - HUDs have been in military use for a very long time, and within the past fifteen years or so, they have been slowly implemented in commercial airline use. Nowadays, almost all large jets have a HUD for both pilots. It's a safety benefit: It relieves pilot workload by not obligating him to constantly switch his eyes between "heads up" (out the window) and "heads down" (at the panel) views during an approach.
nj4ck Says:
Apr 10, 2012 - thanks for the info dude! I've been reading up on it too, seems I had missed something there... but its only newer generations of commercial airliners, as far as I'm concerned.
FlyGuy2480 Says:
Apr 10, 2012 - Exactly. Additionally, older commercial jets that did not originally have HUDs can be retrofitted with them. Nowadays, that is quite uncommon, because if the jet is old enough to not have HUDs from the factory, then it is probably old enough to be replaced entirely. (Modern jets have an average life span of about 20 years when used commercially.) Not to mention, retrofitting them is very expensive.

May 18, 2012 - What is that kind of clicking noise heard at 0:08 to 0:10?
97HKG Says:
May 18, 2012 - the clicking noise that you hear is the Stab Trim being adjusted
Metin Oktay Yılmaz Says:
May 26, 2012 - what is that bff - bff sound? can someone please explain?
likeawhispr Says:
May 26, 2012 - Djfreak123, ILS has nothing to do with weather or not auto pilot is being used, although an autopilot (not all types) can be used to fly an ILS approach. If you were flying this same ILS approach in a small modestly equipped aircraft, you can bet YOU would be flying the approach, especially in bad weather where the autopilot can't keep up with the turbulence. .. Those were the days ;)
likeawhispr Says:
May 26, 2012 - Many of you guys have been playing vid games too long (with feels nothing like a real aircraft, although Microsoft and Jane's) has realistic feedback. Many of you would have to scrape your jaw off the ground after seeing the glass cockpits and night vision options for even the smallest Cessna, Beech or Piper.

May 28, 2012 - Love it!
