Duration: 3:35
Description:
LyricsWhy do I just wither and forget all resistanceWhen you and your magic pass byMy Heart's in a dither, dearWhen you are at a distanceBut when you are near, oh myIt's not the pale moon that excites meThat thrills and delights meOh noIt's just the nearness of youIt isn't your sweet conversationThat brings this sensationOh noIt's just the nearness of youWhen you're in my arms and I feel you so close to meAll my wildest dreams came trueI need no soft lights to enchant meIf you would only grant me the right to hold you ever so tight And to feel in the night The nearness of you

Mar 21, 2011 - I've heard Norah Jones's version. What I like about this version is the range of Sarah's voice. Not to mention that her style is long forgotten and would not be appreciated by today's standards. There's another singer Jeri Lynn Karr (JeriLynnKarr) who does an excellent job singing this also. Even though her voice is soft by comparison, there's just something about her that has me really enjoying her performance.

Jun 10, 2011 - I had never heard the verse. And I understand why is generally left out. Thanx. I'm not a Vaughan fan and this songs shows why. Vocally is a remarkable version, her range we know and all that: but where is the song? I always felt this song must have a soft approach, as suggested by the lyrics, and be almost whispered, except, maybe, in the finale. I admire this version, but I don't love it.

Jun 19, 2011 - OH MY GOSH THIS IS PURE GOLD! Her technique and style is flawless, not to mention exceptionally unique! This is by far the greatest version of this song I have heard thus far. As a standard it is very simple, and a bit cheesy. She pokes fun at the song during this performance with her faces and phrasing. The way the ends the song is perfection, ending on scale degree 2 of the key she is singing in. This creates an uplifting feeling like the song continues on forever in some other dimension.

Jun 20, 2011 - My dad's all time favorite song. When he died at the age of 81 I waited until all of my family's guests had left the viewing room before going up to say a final goodbye to him. I prayed and wept and listened to the canned "musac" the funeral home had softly playing in the background. That's right, it was "The Nearness of You". I smiled as I touched my grand old dad's hand for the last time. Happy Father's Day 2011 dad. "The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God." Psalm 14:1
jamesmaseobrown Says:
Jun 22, 2011 - How do you get from a funeral to that stupid bible verse. Why can't you zealots refrain from spewing your particular brand of idiocy? Sorry to hear about your father, but that retarded Psalm 14:1 is so out of place for this forum and even in your story.
jamesmaseobrown Says:
Jun 22, 2011 - I don't think she's poking fun. I think she gets into it. I kind'a like the sparkle in her eyes, and you have to remember that this occurred during the early 50's. If you went back in time, it will be like living on another planet. The taste and attitudes of people were just different. Oh yea, it's a bit cheesy because cheesy was in during that time.

Jun 23, 2011 - Hi James. Try as you may, you anti-christian bigots will not succeed in censoring free speech. I will stand by and quote Psalms like billions of others for all eternity while for all eternity multitudes who happen across this video will associate jamesmaseobrown with ugly, ignorant & prejudiced name calling and religious intolerance. Its pretty safe to presume by your public behavior that there is not line waiting to knock down your door to sing "The Nearness Of You" to you.
jamesmaseobrown Says:
Jun 24, 2011 - I didn't insult you, I insulted your religion. In fact, I was rather polite about it. It's funny that you accuse me of being a bigot when you use and hide behind that nonsense ( i.e. Psalm 14:1 ) to insult those who don't agree with your brand of neurosis. By default, Christains are arrogant bigots who play victim. As I've stated, that phrase was so out of place and has nothing to do with anything you've stated. Think about it, you use that book to insult others.
michaelvincentaustin Says:
Jun 24, 2011 - No you did not insult me. In order to have insulted me you would have had to have said something valid. You are a bigot, that is undeniable but like all bigots denial is your only recourse. As for neurosis, I recommend at your next session with your shrink that you attempt to fearlessly talk about what it is in you that causes you to hate gentle people and recklessly hurl gross & prejudiced generalizations about entire groups of people in a public forum. Leave me in peace.

Jun 24, 2011 - yada - yada - yada - yada. Look Micky, you definitely need some introspect here. I don't hate anyone. Unlike you, I'm rational and not alone. There's a guy who post here who states the situation quite adequately; give it a gander: /watch?v=P4dSiHqpULk&feature=channel_video_titlenuff said, nuff done.
michaelvincentaustin Says:
Jun 24, 2011 - I couldn't have framed the difference between faith and faithlessness better than "yada, yada, yada". If I am correct that was one of the "psalms" of the late, great man of "reason", Lenny Bruce, another degenerate, self-loathing, self-destructive atheist "reasoner" who died as a junkie on the bathroom floor in a pulp nightmare. You keep your anti-heros & their "yada" & I will reuse Psalm 14:1 in the new context of Mr. Yada, "The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God." Peace unto you.

Mar 18, 2011 - It is a battle of the accompianiments( I have a weakness for the brass, and woodwinds.) I really like the arrangements of both versions. Perhaps if Miss Vaughn's version were remastered I would even be more attracted to it. Norah Jones's arrangement is a very good one, and without a doubt would make Hoagy happy.
