Title: Kayak Fish Finder Installation: Episode 8
Added: Aug 13, 2007
Author: fishyaker
Duration: 1:49
Description:
John "Toast" Oast and Dan Hart of Fishyaker.com demonstrate how easy it is to install a fish finder onto a sit-on-top kayak. All that is needed is a fish finder with cables and transducer, sandpaper, Marine Goop or epoxy, mounting hardware, a screwdriver, and a drill. Make sure you allow the glue to fully dry before moving the kayak. Most any 12 volt hobby battery can be used as a power source. Check out the Fishyaker Youtube site for more kayak fishing how-to's. Aug 27, 2008 - great video, one question though did you push the transducer to the floor of kayak or just suspend it in the goop?? as i want to fit transducer to my yak but unsure as have seen vids showing it pushed to the floor.thankspaul
fishyaker Says:
Aug 27, 2008 - I push it all the way down in the Goop. Make sure there are no air bubbles between it and the floor too.

Dec 2, 2008 - did u Goop the transducer to the interior floor or the bottom of the kayak
fishyaker Says:
Dec 7, 2008 - Sorry about the deal...It is glued to the inside of the hull, centered under the cockpit of the kayak.
fishyaker Says:
Dec 7, 2008 - Really easy...Just find a centered spot inside the hull, and rough it up with sandpaper. Then glue down the puck. Make sure there are no air bubbles in the glue though, or resolution will be affected.

Feb 15, 2009 - Do you specifically need a through hull transducer or does the application of goop allow you to use any transducer? Thanks a lot for the vid. Big help.

Jun 16, 2009 - This is probably a real dumb question but how does the tranducer read the water depth ect. with the hull inbetween it and the water??
jmelville27 Says:
Jun 25, 2009 - the sound waves penetrate the hull, remember this is a solid meaning sound waves travel fast through it than air (air bubbles are bad for sounders). Though the waves can only penetrate through hull thickness of a couple of mm.

Jul 1, 2009 - so was it good?

Jul 1, 2009 - yeah all i need. it shows everything well for the average fishermen who doesn't go out too often

Jul 7, 2009 - The hull isn't made of lead, boss.

Aug 15, 2009 - could you make a video on how to install a rod holder?
fishyaker Says:
Oct 7, 2009 - Sorry for the delay... Just make sure the bottom of the puck is flat. I have used standard H-birds and agles with no problem at all. Cheers!
rednekkracer Says:
Jan 24, 2010 - I have a sit in Kayak and as such do not a have a flat spot pointing straight down on the hull to mount the transducer. What would be the best way to mount one in this case?
fishyaker Says:
Jan 26, 2010 - Is there a fairly flat spot just behind the seat? If not, you can make a bracket to place on the rudder mount area. If you shoot at an angle it will not be very accurate.

fishyaker Says:
Jul 15, 2008 - If you feel like you have some extra cockpit space, take some plexiglass and make a small flat dashboard at the front of the cockpit.
