Title: Dead body on Everest - South Col

Added: Feb 25, 2011

Author: WildFilmsIndia

Duration: 0:19

Description:
Dead body on Mount Everest. The body has turned to leather under the harsh sun and dry dessicated conditions. This clip is shown with due respects to the mountaineer, out of a personal desire to see something done about this terrible personal and ongoing human tragedy where dead mountaineers are not brought down from the peak, due to the many limitations. A body is so heavy that a single porter cannot possibly lift and bring it down, so most dead bodies are consigned to a deep crevasse and given what is called a 'glacial burial'.Since a human body is too heavy to carry back to Base Camp, bodies are either abandoned in the open or given a glacial burial by being released into a crevasse, in a sleeping bag or sack.Located in the Himalayas Mount Everest is the world's highest mountain above sea level at 8,848 metres (29,029 ft). At the higher regions of Mount Everest, climbers seeking the summit typically spend substantial time within the "death zone" (altitudes higher than 8,000 m/26,246 ft), and face significant challenges to survival. Temperatures can dip to very low levels, resulting in frostbite of any body part exposed to the air. Since temperatures are so low, snow is well-frozen in certain areas and death or injury by slipping and falling can occur. May 23, 2012 - It is what they want to do, who are you to say otherwise? You're nobody!

jeanmunn Says:

May 24, 2012 - No ,, you're wrong, I am somebody ! and perhaps individuals like you should accept the fact that there is such a thing as " freedom of speech ".I have every right to voice my opinion whether you agree with it or not ! And by the way, when you state that a complete stranger ( like myself ) is a " nobody " that is a good indication of the type of ignorant individual you certainly appear to be. I stand by what I said ,, Everest is not a fucking dumping ground for garbage and dead bodies !

jeanmunn Says:

May 24, 2012 - The government of Nepal has been well aware for years that these mountaineers and their " expeditions " have shown a complete disregard for the enviroment.Everest is a natural wonder of the earth, majestic and beautiful, and should be treated accordingly. These senseless expeditions have littered this mountain with tons of garbage and dead bodies over the years. They ( mountaineers ) claim " it's too difficult to remove equipment and bodies " WELL YOU SHOULDN'T BE THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE !!

Booze129 Says:

May 24, 2012 - Mount Everest has claimed the lives of over 216 known mountain climbers in recorded history. The area above 26,000 feet is called "the Death Zone", where breathing fresh oxygen from canisters is necessary for all but the most experienced climbers.

MrMrg124 Says:

May 25, 2012 - I have no sympathy for anyone who dies trying to climb one of the world's most dangerous mountains.

mgigkgeg Says:

May 25, 2012 - Whats the problem? Its a pile of rock and ice, no one lives up there where all these dead bodies and tons of garbage are and the only people that this affects is the mountaineers themselves who create the garbage and are the dead bodies. I honestly don't see why you are getting worked up over a mountain when it has no effect on anyone and is not really ruining the landscape as you cant see the garbage unless you are actually on the mountain.

ThePlainormal Says:

May 25, 2012 - I have no sympathy for anyone who is dead. They do not suffer in any way.I have some sympathy for those people who might miss someone who is dead.

ThePlainormal Says:

May 25, 2012 - Oh please. Nice use of capitals.

Stantzs Says:

May 26, 2012 - Yes, exactly, there is no point in climbing Everest anymore. It's nothing but hubris.

j98765432123 Says:

May 26, 2012 - hahah i love how your angry at them for dying up there

jeanmunn Says:

May 26, 2012 - WOW ! what a ridiculous statement, completely indicative of individuals that have no respect for our enviroment.Contrary to your stupid comments that Everest " is a pile of rock and ice " and " not really ruining the landscape as you can't see the garbage ".And the fact of the matter is what difference does it make that " no one lives up there " are you saying it's quite all right to litter a beautiful area like that because you can't see it ?? Your comments really are ridiculous.

jeanmunn Says:

May 26, 2012 - I think the point is that it is extremely sad that men and women die up there and their deaths are completely unnecessary. But as you say it's an extremely dangerous place, a Canadian woman died up there last week and now her family is asking the Canadian government for assistance to recover and transport her body home. Our Canadian government are absolute masters of wasting taxpayers money, they will end up with a revolt on their hands if they spend a penny to recover this woman's body !

musskeeterbump Says:

May 26, 2012 - at least that person died doing something they liked , mountaineers are human

damagon123 Says:

May 26, 2012 - Accidents happen. Get over it. They're not commiting suicide, why the hell should you care?

jeanmunn Says:

May 26, 2012 - I merely expressed my opinion and there is nothing to " get over ". There are many like myself who are of the opinion that it's outrageous that tons of garbage litter that enviroment and the bodies of many a soul are left up there. That's why I care ! there was another comment from a feeble minded moron regarding the mess that has been left behind on Everest. His opinion was that because ( as he put it ) " nobody lives up there " it was okay as you " can't see the garbage anyway " a prize idiot

SpeakForChange Says:

May 26, 2012 - You say that, and you are right the litter and bodies do take away from its natural beauty, but if no one climbed it YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO FUCKING SEE IT.

jeanmunn Says:

May 27, 2012 - No intention on my part to offend anyone by my comments ( and by expressing my opinion ) but I just can't figure that particular way of thinking. So I don't want to put words in your mouth and I respect your right to your opinion but are you saying it's acceptable to have tons of garbage up there and countless dead bodies because you can't fucking well see it ?My husband had a good laugh at your comment by the way. have a nice day.

DrWolf314 Says:

May 27, 2012 - Im just wondering, what ever happend to you to make you hate people who climb everest so much, their has to be a reason

jeanmunn Says:

May 27, 2012 - Wrong ,, I do not " hate people who climb Everest " I have a strong dislike for people who put themselves before the enviroment we all live in and share.I guess the old saying regarding going into beautiful widerness areas " leave nothing but your footprints " does not apply to those who climb Everest.Personally we live in a remote area, the wildlife are our neighbours and we have a deep respect for the beauty that surrounds us.No. I do not " hate " the people, I hate what they do up there.

berggorilla97 Says:

May 28, 2012 - please watch this great video watch?v=UG1VM-4Le1Q

djf750 Says:

May 28, 2012 - I have to agree. They way they do it now, with long lines at the top, and the Sherpas putting out safety ropes and ladders is ridiculous.

DrWolf314 Says:

May 28, 2012 - Fair enough and I respect your opinion but isn't your home in the wilderness in effect the same thing? Disturbing the natural peace of the surrounding for personal pleasure? I personally have not been to the mountain to see it myself but I do hope to one day, I just was wondering what made you so against Everest climbers and not corporations such as the oil and gas industry that is really effecting our environment.

mrceebees14 Says:

May 28, 2012 - That body had been there for a looooooong time.

jeanmunn Says:

May 29, 2012 - Actually we earn our living working in this remote area, we try to fit in and respect the fact that the wildlife were here long before we were.We could debate these issues at hand until the proverbial " cows come home " perhaps I came across a bit too strong with my comments regarding Everest. In conclusion you certainly appear to be a reasonable and intelligent individual but one question remains,,do you feel that it's acceptable to leave tons of garbage and dead bodies in that area ? I don't.

jeanmunn Says:

May 29, 2012 - Good comment ,,, and it most certainly is sad that people lose their lives up there, but they put themselves in harms way and only a fool would ignore the risk at hand. With regards to your comment regarding " safety ropes and ladders " back in 1953 there was no one putting ropes and ladders out for Hillary and his friend Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. In my humble opinion it's ridiculous that a woman had to die up there last week because of a " traffic jam " to reach the summit utter nonsense indeed !
