Title: The First Class - Beach Baby

Added: Dec 10, 2008

Author: 45rpmSINGLES

Duration: 5:7

Description:
70`s studio-based band featuring Tony Burrows (lead vocals) ,Chas Mills & John Carter who had a Worldwide hit in 1974 with Beach Baby. The above 3 musicians had no interest in undertaking any live performances so they recruited 5 other guys to perform most live appearances. The 5 guys in the "live" band never appeared on any of the band`s studio recordings. The record sleeve pictures which show five band members are those who undertook the live dates but dont sing on the recordings ! However the photo on the band`s first album `The First Class ` which features 8 band members is made up of the 3 who actually performed the songs plus the 5 from the "live" band - confused - you should be !PS there are 2 performances by the band on youtube with this song . The 70`s colour video is the "live band " who dont feature on the recording. There is also a more recent amateur video of Tony Burrows performing the song circa 2004 , 30 years after he originally recorded it.

May 4, 2011 - Can't believe I found this! Thanks 45rpmSINGLES. It helped we British to imagine our own version of SUMMER and all it stood for when we were young. I think it's one of Jean Sibelius's works they draw upon at approx. 03:00...

Jun 18, 2011 - The firs time I heard this song was the first day of summer- June 21, 1995 when David Letterman played it on his show to celebrate the start of sumemr and they dropped a few plastic bech balls form the ceiling onto the audience. I had a hard time finding a recording of it then. Now with iTunes and You Tube it's more esaily available : ) Classic song!

Sep 18, 2011 - This to me was right on the cusp of the transition to FM radio for music. I remember my cousin telling me about FM radio, I believe it was 99MHz something or other. I was listening to 77 WABC and 66 NBC AM in New York at that time. He made me feel like I was a square. He also had a rad 8 track in his car with rear speakers and quadraphonic in his attic bedroom. This was definitely AM radio material. Great stuff, good Beach Boys feel.

Sep 26, 2011 - What a song! I remember the week it came out, listening to it on KFRC many more weeks, Doctor Don Rose, San Francisco, on my school bus rides. So great, one of my favorites from 1974.

Oct 5, 2011 - I went to St. Bernard High School in Play Del Rey, CA from 1978-1982. We about as close to the beach as you can get. This song was a little before my time, but I still think about all the beach babes in our school. What a time, what a life. *sigh* Most of the girls are now soccer moms, but I will always remember the shorts, tube tops, and bikinis. I can at least daydream about my high school crushes when I hear this song. Thanks for posting this song!!

Jan 13, 2012 - Ahh, 2SM the AM pop radio kings of Sydney radio in 1974. This takes me back to the western suburbs of the city and summer school holidays of Christmas that year hearing this played a lot then. It still sounds great now and is a shining example of excellent analog production in the days before computers and auto tune. Great pop music!! If you like this be awed by Wizzard's "See My Baby Jive"!!

Jan 18, 2012 - The liberals/progressives democrats RUN Hollywood and the music industry. It is as simple as that. Do the research and find out for yourself. This is why I can't understand why people keep voting these ideologies into government???

HHH100 Says:

Jan 18, 2012 - Listen @ 3:06 and after....That orchestra is ACES!!!! My how this talent disappeared from earth thanks to liberals :(

RogerInPDX Says:

Mar 18, 2012 - Oh Lord, people remembering the transition from AM to FM... I bought an FM converter that allowed me to play an FM signal through the AM radio in my car. Still not stereo, but what a welcome change from the signal being disrupted by power lines and when going through tunnels! I had a 1971 Dodge Colt, and the radio antenna was the trunk lid. No, I'm not kidding, the antenna lead connected to the trunk lid, which was insulated from the rest of the car by the rubber trunk gasket.

SAJWS Says:

Apr 27, 2012 - They are in New Orleans for the JazzFest, Saturday. Their 50th Anniversary. Does it get any better than these guys. Saw them with in Chicago in 1977.
