Title: Waste not, want not: US 'blesses' India with trash

Added: Apr 19, 2011

Duration: 3:3

Description:
The appetite of the ever hungry U.S. consumer is being fed by a steady supply of goods from developing nations. But those items often make the very same return journey. Because when Americans no longer want them, it's countries like India that end up as the dumping ground.RT on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/RTnews RT on Twitter: http://twitter.com/RT_com

Apr 22, 2011 - (cont.)...part of advancements in the urban daily life of the Medieval period. The development of money and commerce ,as opposed to barter, were what made it even POSSIBLE for there to be patrons of the arts or even the ability to have universities and Monastic scholars. We owe a great debt to complex culture. We would not be having this discussion over the airwaves if complex culture were not to have thought of radio waves. All quaintness aside, we live better in "Modernity".

guachingman Says:

Apr 24, 2011 - "All quaintness aside, we live better in "Modernity"." I greatly disagree on your notion of quaintness and your notion of "we live better" because living better at the expense of others living worse and at the expense of our own planet is not living better at all, and time will and is proving it. Compared to medieval yes, yet compared to people who used to live in sync with their land no, we live much worse.

mozo73 Says:

Apr 25, 2011 - Concerning the Planet, I agree with you that we need to put all of our efforts into sustainable uses of our common resources. I'm a fervent "green" in my own life. Concerning "...expense of others living worse...", I would posit that "they" are living worse because of their own socio-political realities that "we" are not responsible for. I do feel sympathy for "them", but "we" are not to blame for "them" living under the spell of Tribal Bull Sh***t or the nonsense of "tradition".

mozo73 Says:

Apr 25, 2011 - Re:"..people who used to live in sync with their land..". Very, very, few cultures ever lived in sync with their land. This is what the history of early migrations is all about: the using up of native resources and then moving on to better pastures. We "Modern" people have at least figured this one out, and if we are careful and not too greedy we can do allot to harness sustain and replenish natural resources in ways that people of the past never could have dreamed of doing.

Apr 26, 2011 - sott.net/articles/show/227672-The-military-s-war-on-the-Earth tell me again we have anything figured out....

mozo73 Says:

Apr 26, 2011 - !!!! Oh, but we Moderns have figured this out. We would not be having this discussion if at least some of us hadn't figured out that our current mis-use of earth's resources is unsustainable. Now, whether or not we HEED what we know is a different story altogether. Yes, you are entirely right that we have destroyed a great deal in a fraction of the time compared with more primitive cultures. However consider what we have gained in comprehensive knowledge...cont.

Apr 26, 2011 - Test

mozo73 Says:

Apr 27, 2011 - (Sorry, YT glitch) cont., ...comprehensive knowledge of the World around us. We have gained immense insight into the workings of the life systems which make up our World. You might argue that the gain was not worth the cost. I would argue that it was worth the cost if we now use our knowledge wisely. I'll bring it up for the third time : We would not be having this discussion on the internet, if not for the advancements of higher culture. If we are to be Luddites: Smash our PC's.

guachingman Says:

Apr 30, 2011 - 3rd time, we having this conversation proves nothing, modern people talk online while ignoring their own neighbours, that is not living better. The "cost" and the "if", the cost is ongoing in case you didn't notice and the" if we use it wisely" is again naive, cos obviously we don't and won't, we make the world a variable and our little comforts like having this conversation a must. It is all backwards. Smash tanks n leave PC for later. Thanks for the conversation and be well!

mozo73 Says:

May 1, 2011 - I am probably more in agreement with you than otherwise. Soldiering taught me to be cynical; being at home has taught me a great deal more pattern/mystically speaking. Thanks for the conversation, you've made very good points. Be well !!.

Jun 28, 2011 - wtf don't blame the whole nation if some private corporation is buying this stuff n making their profit by selling them to workers!!and their r enough resources already to the mass, u ppl still with ur backward knowledge of india still thinking it lack resources, get real facts, get updated , look out for big corporation working here n amount of indian enginers/doctors needed by US!!

TheChickenMoneyKing Says:

Aug 13, 2011 - Okay....let me get this straight.....the people that "recycle" the used computers (referred to as e-waste) say they have a choice, they can either expose themselves to toxic carcinogenic substances in order to survive...or they can just STARVE to death. I think if that were my only options, I would take my chances with the cancer. I don't think India doles out welfare to people that don't want to work, so really its do something, whatever you can to survive, or starve. Some of them DO starve.

TheChickenMoneyKing Says:

Aug 13, 2011 - BTW......if exporting toxic hazardous substances is illegal between countries....where does everyone get their tobacco from? Oh yeah, that doesn't count, does it? Same with booze, that's also a cancer causing substance. So really, the truth is that when something is profitable, the people in power will make exceptions or turn a blind eye, because after all, idealism without money sucks.
