Added: Feb 10, 2008

Author: marcelloqu

Duration: 4:19

Description:
NEW ORLEANS 1987 - THE TWO BROTHERS STEVIE AND JIMMY PLAYING "PIPELINE" ON THE SAME DOUBLENECK GUITAR, SIMPLY INSANE:)SRV ROCKS!..AS USUAL AND THEY PLAY A GUITAR WITH LEFT HANDED NECKS ON A RIGHT HANDED BODY... STEVIE'S STYLE;) THIS IS FROM A STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN & DOUBLE TROUBLE CONCERT ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVERBOAT "S.S. PRESIDENTE" AT THE NEW ORLEANS JAZZ & HERITAGE FESTIVAL MTV MARDI GRAS - FEB 28, 1987Something interesting about the guitar they play in the video: "Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmie Vaughan owned and played a custom Stratocaster-shaped double-neck guitar named "Family Guitar", built by Robin Guitars of Houston, Texas. This guitar had two maple necks, each with a different scale length and a pointy "drooped"-style reversed headstock with locking machine heads and was equipped with Rio Grande single-coil pickups. The latter is tuned an octave higher than a standard guitar, producing a sharper sound similar to that of a mandolin." From answers.com

May 10, 2012 - I actually thought about a reverse banana headstock would look awesome on a strat, but 2 of 'em?...with the Vaughan brothers no less

SargNickFury Says:

May 11, 2012 - I may be shot for saying so but Jimmie is every bit the guitar player his brother was.....that's not a slight to Stevie, just my respect for Jimmie, all I know is there is some sort of crazy guitar gene in that family....and it thrives in Texas...

aleester Says:

May 13, 2012 - Jimmy was a key player in the Texas blues scene, which Stevie learned from. Jimmy comes from an entirely different perspective of blues, he is more old-school and plays the hell out of Texas blues. SRV just overshadowed him by going in more of a Hendrix/virtuoso/speed territory with his guitar playing. Of course, if you don't really have an ear for hardcore blues, then you will predictably think Jimmy's got no skill because he's not as fast or loud as his brother. But musicians know.

epicoutdoorracin2010 Says:

May 15, 2012 - Damn, who say I'll go to Texas to listen to Country, I go to Texas for the Blues anytime!!! This is the Vaughan brothers at their best!

JHaslip Says:

May 16, 2012 - Because you're going to introduce something new to the art of guitar playing. Every guitarist is different just like every human being is different. Truly learn the guitar and then give it what you got.

oldartstudent Says:

May 19, 2012 - Yes, they do. I've always thought Jimmy was the better guitar player.

ronald44181000 Says:

May 20, 2012 - Dick dale is a guitar god!!!!!!!!!Stevie is and always will be in the class of A Clapton or a Segovia, but without Dick dale These others would still be playing acoustics.

redc1c4 Says:

May 22, 2012 - you tell him aleester..we are surrounded by barbarians.

pg1171 Says:

May 25, 2012 - I see this and think, well, I'll just keep on playing in my own way. These two are on a completely different, MUCH higher level than most. I'm just glad that I can play Hotel California and Freebird. This...I just sit back and enjoy!
